Dell e1505, mobility x1400, gpu scaling

I am running windows7 x64 and I am having a scaling issue, making games require a magnifying glass to play.

After installing the new legacy drivers the gpu no longer scales to fit the lcd screen. Going into CCC and using the basic wizard method to "resize to fit the display panel" it does not take effect. "Current setting" will remain on "off" until I change the resolution of the panel below native, and then apply the setting. However, returning the screen to native resolution turns off scaling again. I cannot find these options under advanced mode and I am not sure how to keep them from reverting back so I can use my monitor normally and have it auto adjust for video games.

All help appreciated. Thanks

Re: Dell e1505, mobility x1400, gpu scaling

trying to fix this myself, its a "feature" in the ATI drivers according to their forum...

currently have 9.11 drivers modded on win 7 x64

i was wondering if the latest (non legacy) drivers might work on win 7 x32, (they didnt work for me with x64)

I have tried a couple older drivers, but usually they didn't turn off my screen when I closed the lid.

Anyone else know of a fix?

Re: Dell e1505, mobility x1400, gpu scaling

I have found that the registry key that is being modified is DAL_LCDOptions in Hkey local machine > system > current control set > control > video > various folders are found here, find the one with the folder Video, 0000, and 0001 in it. In 0000 there is the key DAL_LCDOptions. its value is 00 00 00 00 normally and after a restart. In CCC, if you set to scale, it is 04 00 00 00. If you set it to scale and retain aspect ratio its 05 00 00 00. However, this key keeps getting reset after you change the resolution back to its native state.

Any way to lock this key so I can keep the system from changing it? If I am at a lower resolution, and change the settings, it sticks. It only resets when at native resolution.

-Go into the Catalyst Control Center.

-Then into the Desktops and Displays, and into the specific display's configuration.

-Set it to Full Screen, instead of Keep Aspect Ratio.

These options are nowhere to be found, as I explained in the first post. I will reiterate the process I used in a step by step:

1. Change the screen resolution to something below native. (Native is 1680 x 1050)
2. Going into CCC in BASIC mode.
3. Going to the "Quick Settings Tab" and "Selecting Notebook Panel Properties" then finally selecting "Resize the desktop to fit the display panel" and clicking "Go."
4. I select either "Resize to fit the display panel" -or- "Resize, but keep the images original dimensions" and hit "finish."
5. The screen will scale.

Now I can play a game and it will work fine. However, if I do not change the resolution from native BEFORE I apply the resizing setting in CCC, then it does not work. In fact, I can choose either of the resize options and once I open the menu again, it has switched back to "Do Not Resize." If I open a game after not changing the resolution from native before applying the rezizing setting in CCC, it will not resize. My above method is the only workaround I have found.

The only similar options I can find in advanced mode are under "Avivo Video" > Theater mode. Theater mode settings have the option to match the source video or scale to full screen however neither of those are selectable because they are greyed out.

Here are the locations you would expect the option to be in advanced mode, but they aren't:

Here is the options page in basic view:

Unless the current screen size is below native, changing to resize (either one) and hitting finish will make the screen flash as if it is modifying a setting. However, it does not stick, and opening this settings page back up verifies that nothing indeed changed. UNLESS my screen is below native resolution, then the setting WILL stay once I set it and hit finish. However, if I change the resolution back to native, it will reset it back to Do not resize automatically.

Yeah, I recently came to know some people don't see that option in advanced mode, but can do it in basic mode.

Looks like there are other people with your problem with it not sticking. Might want to fill one of those surveys on their latest drivers for them to take note. If enough people do it, they might get around fixing it sooner.

Hard to do that when:
1. They have publicly stated that they are not going to support legacy hardware, especially in regards to windows 7.
and
2. I am using drivers in an unauthorized manner.
