Is it possible to change DDI version of a card?! (to enable Aero)
Hi everyone.
(You can skip reading this paragraph, it's just some historic explanation!) I had a radeon 7000 AGP that broke a few months ago. I went to buy a new AGP card, but the seller told me that these cards are not produced by big companies these days and there are only cloned versions available. And he sold me a chinese card (branded "silkwav" but no website or support available) which claimed to be a GeForce 6200. But when I installed it, and used it, I understood that it was a ATI Mobility Radeon M6 LY, and the drivers on the CD where ATI drivers, modified to look as if they are nVidia's. (I installed the drivers and now I have "nVidia Catalyst" icon on my desktop!!!) Well it worked fine on Windows XP but when i installed windows 7 i couldn't install xp drivers so i got some mobility m6 ly drivers from the net. But the problem is that ddi version of this card is 8, so windows 7 won't enable aero. So are there any hacked or modified drivers to change the DDI version to 9 so that i can have aero? (I know DDI is about hardware and changing it can be dangerous, but worth a try...) I hope i haven't spoke too much. Thanks in advance. |

Hi there!
As far as I understand your issue. The type of solution you are looking for is impossible to do. Mostly because the hardwares incompatibility. And the fact that Aero needs certain HW support that the card don't have. And you should realize that hardware dating back in the 20th century might not work well with modern OS's from Microsoft. |

Re: Is it possible to change DDI version of a card?! (to enable Aero)
The Mobility Radeon M6 is the equivalent of the Radeon 7000, so it's pretty old. I think you should have taken it back to the store when you discovered it was fake, don't know if it's still possible. There are real AGP cards, like this one: Newegg.com - EVGA 256-A8-N341-LX GeForce 6200 256MB 64-bit DDR AGP 8X Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards and even pretty good ones that can play modern games, like this one: Newegg.com - HIS H467Q1GHDAP Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 AGP 4X/8X HDCP Ready Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards . There are also PCI graphics cards based on pretty up to date hardware.
In short, try to find a store where you can get a card with a brand you can query about on the net, or at worst somewhere you can return the card once you find out what it is. |

imo that's fraud.....
There are several AGP cards out still produced by retributable companies. Namely Sapphire having the AGP models that are as recent as the HD3850 and i beleive newer. a single ATI Radeon 9500np and up will run aero in vista and win7, and will actually perform very well, mind you support driver wise was dropped and is intermittingly being supported. Still the latest vista/win7 drivers work great.

Can you get a refund for it? The card isn't even what was advertised.
