2048x1152 resolution on Mobility X1800
Hello,
I'm currently running non-modded drivers on my Mobility X1800, they are running fine at the moment. But, I'm planning on getting an external monitor with a resolution of 2048x1152. This is both high, and has a different aspect ratio (16:9) to my laptop monitor (16:10). Basically, my question; Will my drivers/card support that resolution (via DVI) and if not, will any modded-drivers let me do that? Thanks. |

Re: 2048x1152 resolution on Mobility X1800
white it "should" work just fine... there would be a problem if your trying to clone as generally cloning is only supported by running at the resolution of the smallest monitor.
I personally haven't ran into any older and newer system that wasn't capable of driving a 2048x1152 resolution both via VGA or DVI, even when the products claim that only 1920x1200 is the maximum supported resolution. 2048x1152 is the theoretical maximum of DVI-I (or DVI-D single link) connections. My number one selling monitor is the Samsung 2343BWX 23" 2048x1152 monitor and aside from the RARE case of a few onboard intergrated graphics chips from s3/via or MUCH older Intel graphics, everything from a Radeon 7000 up to everything today, including the newer intergrated intel chips in the G series and the intergrated intel i3 and up. Guess the only way you'll find out is plug it in and see if it detects the maximum resolution correctly and allows you to plug it in. I've a ATI radeon x1650xt here that works great with the 2048x1152.

Thanks very much for your reply Judas. I was hoping I was just being a little paranoid about this resolution business.
The Samsung monitor you mention is just the one I had in mind, except here in the UK, the model number for it is 2343BW. I don't think there's any difference between them, other than the slightly different model number itself. |

i beleive there are some other factors.... i tried to determine what it was.... but your most likely very similare..
probably contrast ratio and a different panel type Either way.. i honestly do not think you should have an issue... but i won't deny that there is a possibility that SOME manufacturers of laptops and modifications to the way the intergrated chips work MAY have an impact on it... Like i said, best way to know is to find out

Re: 2048x1152 resolution on Mobility X1800
Hi,
Well, I got a different monitor in the end; a 24" 1920x1080 panel. But I'm having issues getting the monitor to display an image. My laptop can detect the external monitor is there, and resolutions can be changed, but nothing is actually displayed on the monitor. It just says check signal cable, which I have done. I'm running Windows 7 and using DVI to connect between the monitor and the laptop. Any suggestions how to get it working will be most appreciated. Thanks |

Re: 2048x1152 resolution on Mobility X1800
there may be a source button on the monitor... push it..
a number of times i've come across some monitors that constantly switch to the VGA connection and give you the no signal garbage out of the box.. and some of them do that the moment the dvi signal goes into standby... which is annoying.. If it's detecting them monitor and resolutions.. it's pulling EDID information just fine.... i would bet if all else fails.. the monitor could be faulty... (unfortunately)

Re: 2048x1152 resolution on Mobility X1800
There is indeed a source button on the monitor, but it doesn't appear to switch the input's at all. That was the first thing I tried since it was the first thing that sprung to my mind too. I don't think its a faulty monitor either, because it seems to work fine on my ancient desktop (which has a DVI). Also, to complicate matters, the display works fine when when it is hooked up via VGA (1920x1080) is fine.

Re: 2048x1152 resolution on Mobility X1800
that is strange no doubt.... i could not suggest anything else at this time.. as personally i've never seen a problem of the sort..
however if vga is working... stick with it i guess... there is very little difference between vga/dvi anymore these days.

Re: 2048x1152 resolution on Mobility X1800
Yes, it is very strange indeed Judas. I have summarised the diagnostics I have carried out below. Perhaps they will give an indication of the problem.
VGA (from laptop DVi port using DVI to VGA adapter) to VGA (LG monitor) works fine. DVI (laptop) to another DVI monitor also works fine. DVI (old desktop) to DVI (LG monitor) works fine. From this, it seems both the laptop and the LG monitor alone have working DVI ports, but when they are put together, nothing happens. The LG is recognised by the laptop (both in Windows and Catalyst Control Centre), and you can even change the resolution, but there is just no image on the monitor. This is very puzzling

Re: 2048x1152 resolution on Mobility X1800
strange capability issue... perhaps..
because the monitor is not a DVI-D required standard for that monitor... i do not quite understand why there would be an issue.. specially with the DVI port is known to work on other monitors...
