HP 8005AP with Radeon Mobility x600 upgrading to win 7

I have :

the original XP driver that came with the HP Laptop. Driver date 21/12/2004 ver 6.14.10.6505
Upgraded to Win7 - then via device manager updated the driver - Win 7 correctly identified the ATI Radeon Mobility x600 and worked fine for about 1 hour - then black screen

Action

Downloaded the 10.6 Vista /Win7 driver from ATI
Downloaded and installed the modder
It seems to "mod fine"
I then run setup which seems to run fine but it does not change the driver. And I would probaly expect a time and date change on some of the files in the directory. - Nothing - even after reboot

I have just rebooted and the monitor settings are:

Generic Pnp Monitor and ATI Radeon MObilty x600 Properties
Adapter info
Chip Type ATI dsiplay Adpater (0x3150)
DAC Type Internal DAC (400Mhz)
Bios Info: BK-ATI VER008.019M.044.003
Graphics Memory 256 MB

Question:
How do I get this driver to update to the latest?

The front page of http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php shows that the x600 is supported. Is this a mistake / error?

Hello!
I have the same problem.
I tried to update my toshiba satellie M40X with Radeon Mobility x600 to Win7.
Win 7 identified the the hardware and uses the standard VGA driver.
now i tried to install the newest driver.
-> Catalyst 10.7 -> modified it
but no change of the driver.
even after reboot.
