I'm sorry if this is not in the right section. Also I'm pretty computer noob so I'm sorry if I don't post all the right information. My issue is this.
I bought a HP dv6 1244tx that has an ATI 4650 1gig card. I hated Vista and upgraded to Windows 7 with the free upgrade disc that was on offer. I then in turn didn't like Windows 7 either so I found a copy of Winxp Dark Edition. Due to the fact that WinXP can't be installed on this lappy without a Slipstream cd or such. (Theres no option to turn off SATA in the bios, it's HP's way of locking you into WinVista / Win7 ) Any way. My problem is since loading XP which is running perfectly I now need drivers for my laptop. Since it's not supported via xp on any of the ATI / Windows site I found my way here via Google. Ok. So I read the instructions for the Mobility Modder. These are the steps I got to .. then got lost or something went wrong
- Downloaded and installed the Mobility Modder
- Downloaded and installed msxml 6.0 x86.. I believe thats the one for my CPU
- I made sure I had the upto date .net framwork.
- I downloaded and extracted the driver suggested ATI Catalyst Drivers 10.8 to the location and then canceled the install as suggested http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php
- I run the Mobility Modder and "modify" the driver
- Now this is where I get lost. Do I then proceed to install that driver ? Or what. Because so far anything I have tried has failed to produce the results I desire.
Sorry this was long winded, I just wanted to make sure all information was given.
