exclamation Re: ATi Catalyst Mobility 11.12 display drivers for notebook computers (13/12/2011)

Ok, so how i understand it (and I am by no means an expert), laptops with switchable graphics use a driver that is written for the power-saving gpu (located on the cpu, intel in my case), and the high performance gpu (amd, in my case). And although they are separate gpus, they are "connected" and both actually run through the intel chip on the cpu. So even when the amd high performance gpu is running, it is transferring it's graphical information through the intel integrated chip. So a driver from intel or amd won't work because they are not written for computers that use both gpu's in tandem. That is why these drivers are distributed through the computer manufacturer, and also why a lot of people with switchable graphics don't have any luck using drivers not designed for their systems.

Re: ATi Catalyst Mobility 11.12 display drivers for notebook computers (13/12/2011)

Hello!

I would like to thank you for this guide, for it worked in my case. Windows 7 "Resolution" tells me I just have "Mobile PC screen", but CCC and GPU-Z clearly show me I have Catalyst version 11.12, and atiumdag 8.920 in use.

DOES EVERYTHING LOOK OK???

The Catalyst installation of course told me there were some "alarms" or somesuch during installation, but no real problems in the log. Everything was installed correctly. So I take it this means the drivers are in use and working?

My specs:

Acer Aspire 8943G
Core i5 2,4 (2,6 TBoost)
4GB DDR3
1TB HDD
Blu-Ray
18,4" screen
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1GB (128bit)

P.S. I followed the guide to the letter with reboots and everything.

Re: ATi Catalyst Mobility 11.12 display drivers for notebook computers (13/12/2011)

hi!

i also want to update my ATI driver but i don't know if my laptop specs would qualify for this process or perhaps i am just a noob..sorry

specs:
Lenovo G470
intel i5 2.4 ghz
6gb ram
switchable graphics: Intel hd 3000, ATI HD 6370m (1gb)

I so want to upgrade drivers for both but can't so just wanted to ask if my laptop's a go..just want to make sure

UPDATE:

ok my specs works but has anyone tried this with HD 6370m?

im downlading the file but a bit hesitant to give it a go

On the other hand people with AMD processors and a GPU built in the AMD chipset and another dedicated GPU from ATI/AMD and switchable graphics, have native driver support for both GPUs provided by the Catalyst package.

Re: ATi Catalyst Mobility 11.12 display drivers for notebook computers (13/12/2011)

Hi - I'm new here,

I have a sony vaio with a radeon HD3470 card. It could really do with some new drivers but the links in the first post are dead thanks to the FBI. Does anyone know where else I can get them? I've had a look but all I can find are the new drivers with the catalyst installer, which I can't run because of sony. The catalyst installer won't even unpack the files so I can't install the new drivers manually through device manager .

Any help much appreciated.

I downloaded the automatic detection package from the AMD website and was able to update to the 12.1 drivers without any problem.

Really? Did you update the driver after installing 11.12 from this side or before ?

That method didn't work for me.

It downloads and extracts fine, but in the first setup window it says that it isn't compatible with my graphics adapter and to contact my notebook provider for drivers.

You just had luck or had to do some trick to bypass setup warning?

Hi everyone,

I tried to download 64bit driver version but seems www.multiupload.com is not working anymore.
Anyone could upload package to some different server?
Thanks in advance!

I have it, there was a workaround that I found yesterday to grab the package, but it seems that it isn't working anymore today. Guess I'm pretty lucky.

Anyways, I'm uploading the 64bit drivers to Mediafire and I'll have a link up when it finishes.

Re: ATi Catalyst Mobility 11.12: MacBPro

Hey all, just wanted to throw my rig into the mix and see if anyone has some ideas. I think that I have the strangest or most unique setup regarding driver mixes and possible problems. Here's what I have upgraded from and to:

MacBPro
XP SP3 (via bootcamp)
CPU: C2D 2.16Ghz
ATI mobility X1600 (256M)
GPU: M56, 90nm
Driver Version: ati2mtag 8.593.100.0 (
Catalyst 10.2) <---- This is directly from GPU-Z

Things have been running pretty smooth since I upgraded from ~8.5 to 10.2. No BSODs, no freezing, a few VPU recoveries, but I'm running split screens of diff sizes so... After reading all the posts and seeing others with "legacy" GPU/rigs having problems/BSODs, I don't want to tempt fate (11.x) and fubar stability for hours of trouble shooting (cursing and tensing up lmao) to get things back to stability (10.2)

1) Can someone tell me the limits of this hardware regarding Catalyst drivers; can I go past 10.2, and to what version before they discontinue support (absolutely)?

2) Is there a special install method that I need to undertake?

Thanks all.

BTW- I noticed that during the install of GPU-Z, my firewall detected a bunch of outbound traffic to random looking IPs, near the end of the install, I finally saw a "techpowerup.com"URL. Each time the prog starts up it tries to phone home to said URL (208.43.3.154). Note that there is ZERO option to disable said phone-home... What info is being sent hrmmm.

Re: ATi Catalyst Mobility 11.12 display drivers for notebook computers (13/12/2011)

Just a noob question. I recently purchased an HP dv6-61xx
Processor: AMD Accelerated Processors for Notebook PCs
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6755G2 1 GB DDR3
Crossfire 6620G Internal + 6750M dedicated = HD6755G2)(Radeon Dual Gráphics, switchable graphics)*

*Descriptions from the store

-------

I'm getting the BSOD atikmdag.sys error, after calling technical support they told me to do a fresh system-recovery and install some updates (BIOS, chipset and Graphics) from HP site. I did that and BSOD showed up like 2 hours later.

So, should I uninstall the latest HP Graphic driver and install (after doing the reg cleaning) the driver provided on Page 1 or as said on post #74 just install them on top? Post #186 has a link to another site with HP drivers, I'm not pretty sure what to do.

Thanks for your help!

Re: ATi Catalyst Mobility 11.12 display drivers for notebook computers (13/12/2011)

I have a Toshiba laptop and installing these drivers over the ones provided by Toshiba work fine for me, I don't know about your case.

If installing over the drivers that HP provide in their website doesn't work for you, try to do the uninstalling and cleaning instructions of the 1st post and see if fresh installing these drivers work.

If your laptop has switchable graphics, you may want to read the entire thread/topic to see opinions about that, some people had problems with installing these drivers in laptops with switchable graphics cards.
