Help! Can't update ATI x1700 using mobility modder

Hi

I'm hoping that someone out there can help me as I'm not a computer whiz! I've tried and failed to update the driver for the ATI Mobility Radeon x1700 installed in my laptop. I carefully followed the instructions in Mobility Modder V1.2.1.0, installing .net framework and msmxl, downloaded the latest catalyst driver from driverheaven and the program updates the msi file, but the driver isn't changing - according to the catalyst control centre. The installed driver is the original one from Asus.

The tech stuff:
Asus W2PC
XP Pro (32 bit, I think?)
ATI Mobility Radeon x1700
Driver Packaging version 8.283.4....
Driver 6.14.10.6631

I want to run World of Subway and their forum reports that Catalyst driver 8.10 will let me run the game (instead of the red stripy screen I see at the moment!).

Any thoughts? What am I doing wrong?

Your help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Re: Help! Can't update ATI x1700 using mobility modder

Download the latest driver that supports your card from the AMD (former ATI) site. For your card it's the legacy 10.2 driver. In the menu choose the "Desktop Graphics" and not "Notebook Graphics". That is where the modder jumps in

Here is the direct link for the driver (hope it works). Choose the Full Software Suite.

After downloading the file, start it, and let the installer unpack all the files, than abort the installation. Unpacked files are usually located in the C:\ATI folder.

Now, you should start the Mobility Modder and patch the unpacked installation files.

When the Mobility Modder is finished, just run the setup.exe file.

If it won't work, I suggest you first uninstall the old driver.
