Hp Compaq nc6000 - Ati Mobility radeon 9600 32mb

In my office I have to use a Hp Compaq nc6000 with an Ati Mobility radeon 9600 32mb.

I purchased on my own a screen (ASUS VH-198 with a ratio of 16:10 and a native resolution of 1440x900).

I can't get my laptop to provide a proper resolution to my new screen. Do you belive that installing "Heaven" drivers I could get it done ?

I hope someone might suggest me the right way to solve this irritating issue.
