ati 9200 mobility xp low res issue

I've been using radion omega 3.8.252 drivers successfully for over a year on my sony laptop. I installed the omega drivers because ati drivers didn't support a widescreen second monitor.

Anyway, in the past few days, windows xp has been booting up in an extremely low res monitor mode and saying the omega drivers are incompatible. I can restore the omega drivers, but boot up the next morning and again same thing.

Last things to happen on the system were I loaded firefox and thunderbird, and windows came out with a rash of updates, all at the same time.

I tried loading the ati package and it says my system is too old for any of their drivers, and it appears that omega has not updated their drivers since 3.8.252.

Help, I need this system! Reloading the omega drivers every time I boot from a remote monitor is no fun!

This happened to me once before and I ended up restoring my whole system to a previous backup point, which wiped out a couple packages I had installed (maybe firefox?) but I repartitioned my drives since, so I'd rather not have to do that.

thanx,

Dave Miller

Just reloaded the omega 3.8.421 drivers and screen won't drop to 1680x1050 mode, setting it there just makes a big virtual screen...

Uninstalled everything that looked like a video driver and reloaded the 252 drivers from scratch, and the video has loaded normally for two days now in a row now. Fingers crossed...
