Few Questions About My IGP 320m

Hello everyone. I'm new to posting here but I have been reading and searching these forums for a while. I'm thankful for the advice on the Gart driver and the mobility tool. Excellent pieces of work. Here are the specs of my HP Pavilion ZE4400 laptop.

CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ @ 1.8GHz
GPU: ATI Radeon IGP 320m 64 MB Shared Memory (using Catalyst 4.10 version drivers at the moment)
RAM: 512 MB

Other specs available upon request.

I have a few questions about the IGP 320m driver wise.

1. What's the lastest and best driver that works. I've searched and read about the Catalyst 6.4, I've used the Mobility tool and all and when I start a 3D game (GTA Vice City) my laptop freezes. I'm using 4.10 and I'm just wondering if there are any newer/better drivers? The current ones are fast with the GART drivers.

2. Is this card compatible with the Source game Portal. Every time I launch the game from Steam, I get the error memory at 0xxxxxxx could not be read. I read up on the issue and one of the reasons was for outdated drivers. I think this card is powerful enough to play the game on low, but the game won't even start. Are there any fixes for this?

Thanks for all help.

The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there

this is pretty much the most comprehensive info we have on this problem, good luck...

I have read this one. But some of the info is back and forth, some say the 4.10 is the best, and others say between Catalyst 6.4 and some Omega drivers. I just wanted a more clarified info on a recommended driver. Besides, I don't recall anything about Portal, so maybe if there is an answer, it'll help someone other than just me.

the most you can possibly do is have windows search its online libraries for the most up to date driver, but that thing is very old...

no more support so people really have to just try everything until they find something that works.

Yes, this is why I came here, since it seems this is the place for support like this. I've researched, the latest driver from Microsoft is an outdated driver, the ones with Vista are based off of 6.4 I believe. However, since here is the most details I've ever read on this GPU, maybe there could be someone else here who owns on and see if there is anything special to run the game Portal, or any advice on some better drivers than Catalyst 4.10.

EDIT: Found something, I read in the topic posted above, that the IgP 320m is a DirectX 8.1 card. However, on other sites and een GPU-Z, it is stated that this card is only DirectX 7, that explains why Portal won't run. Is there a specific driver or software requirement to get full DirectX 8.1 in Hardware?
