For school i need to run some apps that require windows xp to run properly so I installed it again on my laptop in dualboot, but I'm having big troubles getting my graphics card to work, any help here is greatly appreciated.
Problem is it doesn't even recognise my card, according to windows xp there's no display(adapter) attached.., only thing i can find in hardware is under "other hardware" a "video output vga compatible" and it notes that the drivers are not installed, tried to do update driver wih the modded mobilty drivers found here but no luck, just states that no drivers were found..(to be clear: i can see on my screen just laggy screen scrolls etc..)Any clue how to get this working or am i stuck with the windows xp mode from my win7 ultimate? My laptop is a MSI GX660r with I7-740qm, 6gb ram, raid setup and HD5870 mobility if that info is even necessary... |

Re: Mobility Radeon HD5870 vs windows XP
I have 2 suggestions:
1) You could try downloading THIS set of drivers. It was created for an Asus laptop that includes the same graphics chip, and is for the 32bit version of both XP and Windows 7. I can't say, 100%, that these will work, but that it is recommended by a poster on Asus's forums, and it should work with yours too. 2) With Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate Microsoft offers a free Virtual XP mode that you can download from HERE. This allows you to run XP from within Windows 7 as a virtual machine. There are drawbacks, however, such as the fact that "more than likely" you cannot use it for gaming as it uses compatible drivers to run. However it may be just fine for what you need. |
