Intel HD graphics 3000 starts using AMD drivers
My Intel core i7 processor with HD graphics 3000 starts using my AMD drivers for my AMD Radeon HD 6490M graphics card. And when playing some games, this exact driver freezes. Doesn't seem to be a coincidence.
Code:

So how do I go about telling the integrate Intel HD graphics processor to stop using AMD's drivers? |

Re: Intel HD graphics 3000 starts using AMD drivers
If a laptop has switchable graphics support (where while playing a game it switches to the 3rd party card, and back to the internal/onboard for desktop/office use) normally Windows shouldn't switch from one graphics chip to another while playing a game, only during it's launch. One thing you could try (and this is dependant upon whether or not you can do this in the bios) is to set the option in the bios to ONLY use the ATI/AMD card. What you are looking for in the bios is something that refers to the graphics options, specifically a way to switch it to run on the ATI/AMD chip (might be listed as discrete graphics).
Only issue here is that it will always run on that chip, so battery life will suffer when running normal desktop/office apps and so fourth. What you could do is go into the bios, and switch it to the discrete graphics when you know you are going to be gaming, and switch it back to "switchable" when you're not. |

Re: Intel HD graphics 3000 starts using AMD drivers
Thank you for your reply!
I have already disabled switchable graphics in my BIOS. I have removed my battery in order to save it's usage, since I am not using it portably. When I uninstalled all graphics drivers, installed drivers for my integrated GPU Intel HD graphics 3000, EVERYTHING WORKED PERFECTLY!!! I noticed when thereafter installing the graphics driver from HP, that the Intel HD graphics suddenly started using atikmpag.sys/amdkmdag.sys which is an AMD driver, and Windows started recognizing Intel HD graphics as manufactured by AMD technologies. I have a graphics driver from Hewlett-Packard for my AMD Radeon HD 6490M. It is VERY buggy so I am trying to download the latest driver from AMD.com, but it says it is not compatible with my device! But then I installed the Radeon drivers from HP, and it kept crashing and crashing because atikmpag.sys/amdkmdag.sys hanged. This only occurs when playing some specific games. So please help me find an authentic AMD driver for my graphics card, because HP (lol crazy) makes buggy drivers and are not at all authentic. I am calling HP support today and ask them to give me an authentic AMD driver which doesn't have any HP modifications, since that is buggy. When looking at forums, everyone else who experience this problem uses HP-graphics drivers and not AMD. The problem is not the graphics card, since other people who uses AMD drivers get no errors what so ever. When I look into the HP-drivers files, I SOMEHOW FIND ALL THE GAMES IN A LIST WHICH ARE ALWAYS CRASHING, is this a coincidence or not? Either they have attempted a solution to the problem or this list are for messing up my computer!?!? Last edited by Vitdom; Jan 19, 2012 at 11:38 AM. |
