HP Notebook with Mobilty 9600 or 9700?

I'm wondering which mobilty card is more suitable for gaming,

The Mobility Radeon 9200 (64MB) or Fire GL T2 (128MB)?

I know there are better mobility cards on the market,
but the mobility cards are used in the Notebooks I'm interested in.

Can somebody tell me if there is a HP notebook with the mobilty 9600 or 9700?

Fire GL T2 (128MB), has more ram and has higer presision, based on the 9600 firegl ...

look at it this way pc card price wise and what cost more is usally better (with in same brand)
Fire GL T2 (128MB), $200+
Radeon 9200 (64MB) $60+

and yea ther should be a 9600 or 9700 mobile out by now and if not I under stand the video
can be chaged (so i've been told)hae you looked on hp's website?

The fire GL is not a gaming card, fire GL drivers leave a lot to be desired on that front. You'll probably get the same performance in games from both 9200 and FGL. Just ask Zardon about his FireGL driver experiences...

Thx for the replies, On ATI's site ATI claims that the FireGL is used for CAD purposes and the Mobility Radeon for Gaming.

And I forgot to mention 1 thing, that it has to be a HP/Compaq Notebook from the business class.
So that limits the options in ATI Radeon Video Cards.
I did see that the HP Pavilon series have the newer ATI cards, but since it's not listed as a business notebook,
I won't be able to get it.

The only cards I could find listed in the business part of the HP/Compaq notebooks are
the ones I mentioned in my first post.

So I think i'll go with the NX7010 series with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 (64MB).
It has a widescreen tho, will that give me any problems with games?

It's not meant for gameing? but it has a higher clock rate, 2x the ram, DX9 support
not just DX8 like the 9200. If I was gona pick I'd say firegl but thats just me...

but there may be little diff....

I have an HP with a 15.4 inch wide sceen display and a mobile 9200 processor. Some games have wide screen native resolutions available (UT 2003) but most do not. At least one Omega driver version I used in the past had the ability to toggle between stretching your game display to fill the screen (everything looks a little fat) and playing with a non-stretched resolution with black bars on the sides. I have posted in the Driver section a request about the various Omega versions. Omega has indicated in a different thread that he will try to incorporate more wide screen resolutions into his next release.

My HP notebook is my work machine so I can't say that I have put it through the gaming wars to give you all the details you seek. I do have three desktop computers networked at home for the kids (and dad too)!

The notebook has a 1.5 Centrino processor which seeems to match well with the ATI mobility 9200 graphics card. The native resolution is 1280 x 800. I can play UT 2003 at that resolution (it really looks good in native wide screen mode) at medium settings pretty smoothly. I don't think that the machine would handle the latest DX 9 games too well.

The Centrino is a great tradeoff between processor speed and battery life and the wide screen format is great for split screen work. I would probably get an Intel with HT and a mobile 9600 or 9700 if I was serius about gaming with the notebook. I would probably skip the wide screen as well.

Hmmz, looks like I'll be roaming the HP site today once more

I'm only able to select an HP business Notebook, but would like to play some games on it. Oh well, looking for a new notebook is half the fun.

The HP Compaq NC8000 has an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro! Too bad it's a bit on the thick side.

I've got an NC8000 (PM 735) and I have to say I love it - granted it is something of a brick and doesn't have the sleek slim lines of a powerbook or the horsepower of some of the new Pentium M dual core (Yonah) but to be perfectly honest it is the most mobile workstation for the simple fact that (with the addition of a multibay battery) I get between 6-8 hours of battery life out of my laptop before I need to plug in. And everything is integrated which means that with my laptop I usually carry only a set of earphones and a bluetooth mouse - no A/C adapter (keep this in my car tho just in case), no wires or searching for plugs when you sit down at some random coffee shop to work...

I digress, I am looking to upgrade my nc8000 (currently mobility 9600 64mb as stated above) to a mobility 9700 or 9800...

is this possible or advisable to attempt?

in your best estimate - should I successfully install a faster mobility gfx card will it affect my battery life significantly or at all?

on that note - do any of you know if upgrading my processor from a PM 735 (1.7GHz) to a PM 765 (2.1GHz) will affect my battery life (since the CPU is throttled anyways?).

dunno if anyone has answers to these random questions but if so any advice will be much appreciated!
