Problem with Omega and Mob. 9000
I just installed the latest Omega drivers, and from what I've seen so far, it's great! The only problem is, I recently rebuilt my laptop and haven't bumped up my Mobility 9000 from 64mb to 128mb yet. Call me stupid if you like, but I can't find where to change that in the new control panel. Can someone give me a hand?

i think u change it from bios, and not from the control panel. not sure i'm right. i have the same card on my laptop, but its already detected as 128 so i didnt need to change anything.

Nope, I've been through the bios and there is nothing in there about changing the size alotted to the card. I'm using a Toshiba A75-S229, Phoenix bios v1.30, I think, if that'll help.

How the hell did you add ram to that card, i've never heard of that. Incidently, if there isn't a bios setting, windows should automatically detect things like that, its not a software setting.

I haven't added ram to the card - I believe it's called "discrete", up to 128mb. As I understand it, it uses up part of the system ram. So for 64mb from 512, it uses up that 64 and brings the system ram available down to 448. I think it was listed under a tab called something like "cache size". Forgive me for not really knowing what I'm talking about; this is the first computer I've owned that I haven't made from 3 year old parts, so I'm still trying to catch up to the latest hardware.

Descrete Wavelet Transform? I don't know much about it, but I don't think its going to show up as added memory to your card. What are you using the card for, if its games, that might not be a great idea. DWT can have negative effects, and really slow you down.

Interesting. AFAIK, it should be dynamically allocated, as necessary. If you can - revert back to toshiba drivers, and see if this adds the tab back. Post a screenshot if it does.

Sorry, I used the wrong term. I just uninstalled omega, and reinstalled the ATI drivers. It was called the "Frame Buffer" and it allows me to change the amount of ram used for the card - 16, 32, 64, 128. And no, this isn't going to be used for gaming primarily - this laptop is for the job in which I will earn enough to build a gaming system.
Edit: I have the screenshot - but how do I upload the thing? I don't see a method of uploading images, just one for a URL. (forgive me if I'm being dense, it's been a long day) Last edited by xaoskiohshin; Mar 2, 2005 at 09:52 PM. |

Try setting up a free account with PhotoBucket
After you upload the file to them copy/past the IMG link they give you for the photo. - Tip |

Here's 2 possible fixes for you:
Create a text file on your desktop called uma.txt, and paste the below into it: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ATI Technologies\Desktop\CPTemplate\20581\] "UmaFrameBuffer"=hex:01,00,00,00 Make sure you hit the enter key after the last line. Save it, then rename it to uma.reg, then double click it, and add the settings. (or right click the file and choose Merge). If that one doesn't work try this listing: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ATI Technologies\Desktop\CPTemplate\15460\] "UmaFrameBuffer"=hex:01,00,00,00 Same deal as before. That should clear things up. You may need to reboot in order for it to take affect though. - Tip |

BTW: Lemme know if this works cuz there is one other registry entry that might need to be changed, but it depends on whether or not it exists in your system. If you check the section in your registry (Start, Run, Regedit) at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ATI Technologies\Desktop\ you should see 2 folders: CPTemplate and InstallPath. If there is a 3rd folder right above CPTemplate then you will need to manually edit the UMA option in there. For instance you might have a folder called {EC3E6A33-D360-4066-B54B-B9434081F478} along with the other 2 I mentioned. Click once on that folder, and browse down on the right side until you see UMAFrameBuffer. Double click it, and highlight the first 2 editable numbers. Hit the Delete key just once (which will delete both numbers), insert 01, and hit OK. It should change to 01 00 00 00 meaning that it's active. Close the registry, and reboot (if necessary).
Sorry about forgetting that listing. My fault. - Tip
