Radeon Problem

Can anyone please cast some light on this problem? I have submitted problem reports to ATI but am getting nowhere.
Every time my machine starts an ATI Control Panel instal screen in Hungarian pops up in spite of the fact that Control panel in English is already installed and working. I cancel the instal screen and everything appears to work normally. The problem started about a month ago after I upgraded my XP SP1 installation to SP2. Today ATI recommended I upgrade to Catalyst v.5.4 in the hope that this would resolve the issue. I uninstalled all ATI software and re-installed, using 5.4. No joy!
Any ideas as to what might be triggering this instal screen would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply.

I downloaded and installed 5.4 without the Catalyst Control Center.

I will take a look at your other two suggestions.

Following a suggestion in the Common Problems Forum (and in desperation) I removed all language files, other than English, from the ATI Control Panel directory. Needless to say I still get the Hungarian instal screen!

This message was originally posted in the Windows Radeon Display Drivers forum.

I am not using a laptop but a desktop with a Sapphire Radeon 9200SE 128MB in an AGP 4x socket on an ECS K7S5A motherboard, AMD 2100+ XP cpu, 80GB C: drive, Windows XP SP2 Home. Is this the correct location for this problem - or does it not matter?

Disabling a command line in the Startup tab of the System Configuration Utility setting up the old version of ATI Control Panel (from the CATALYST 5.3 package) stopped the Hungarian instal screen popping up. CATALYST 5.4 is the currently installed version. The command line comes from the Registry and obviously the ATI uninstall utility is not properly cleaning the Registry as there is more than one reference in it to the old CATALYST version. I usually follow an uninstall with a RegClean to get rid of any remaining references to ATI before installing the new version but I did not do that when I upgraded to 5.4. Another oddity is that the directory C:\ATI\Support\ contained sub-folders for both 5.3 and 5.4 so ATI's UninstallAll utility, AtiCimUn.exe, seems not to be doing a very good job. It all seems to be a bit of a mess and I guess I had better do another uninstall, clean and re-install. Maybe I should give Driver Cleaner a trial?

To update my last message, I received very full instructions from ATI yesterday from which I deduce that I used the wrong uninstall program. The program "AtiCimUn.exe" was in my ATI Technologies directory within Program Files and described as "UninstallAll" so I think my mistake was understandable. The correct uninstaller is "cat-uninstaller.exe" available from "www2.ati.com/drivers/cat-uninstaller.exe".

Problem resolved. Cat-uninstaller utility run and CATALYST v.5.4 re-installed OK. Incorrect command line deleted manually from Registry and msconfig Startup is now "clean".

Faith in ATI restored!

PS But I'll never know why Hungarian language screen!!!

For further reference, definitly run Driver Cleaer when you have any driver issues and re-install.
