Graphic rendering errors on 9800

Hi folks,

I have an ati 9800 mobile and in games I usually experience some graphic errors like lines coming out of graphic objects (characters, doors, weapons, etc...)

What do I have to do to fix this problems?

Actually I'm using Radeon Omega Drivers 2.6.12 (Catalyst 5.2). Should I try Driverheaven Mobility Modder V2.2?

hi, and welcome to DH!!!

the mobility modder is to be able to use the official catalyst drivers, so i dont think that will help seeing as they are similar to omegas.

it looks to me that the problem is that the drivers havent been installed properly. if you dont do this properly, the older version of the drivers will cause problems with the new ones.

try using the drivercleaner program which you can find from the main DH menu. this will completely uninstall the previous driver, and then reinstall the omega ones.

see if this helps, and if not report back.

Belive me that Omegas work great with MR9800, (I own one).

Try a fresh install after using drivercleaner. If it does not work, it may be a faulty memory module within the card assembly, and it might require a replacement. Try the latest DELL drivers. If the artifacting is still there with DELL drivers, call DELL support, and ask for a replacement.

Good luck

I have the same problem! I havent contacted Dell yet because i don't know how to prove that the card is not rendering games properly. Did you ever get a replacement?

I still have a warranty.

Bloodshot, you may be either very lucky, or out of luck.

As far as I know, Dell ran out of stock of MR9800 some time ago. So there is little chance they can give you a replacement.

On the other hand, if you are still under warranty, they MUST provide you with a solution. Maybe if they cannot give you a new card, they will replace your whole laptop for a newer one with similar specs.

I'm sending you some info by PM.

Regards

i actually called them before reading yoru reply and told them about my 9800 problem. we ran a whole bunch of tests but nothing came up. in the end they said that a new 9800 was being shipped to me this week with a technician at hand. if the problems continue i'll let them know. i'd be estatic to get my XPS GEN1 replaced with the new line...

i'd just like to share my story about the dell graphic card replacement. i had a technician come over and install it this week and it seemed to have fixed the graphic error problems. i just wish i had called a year earlier since i was in complete sadness to have not been able to play the games i wanted. my laptop however runs really HOT, almost burns my wrist while playing, anyone ever get that?

so i installed the omega drivers, everything is at default. anyway i can maximize my card even more without burning it out? do bios settings really make that big a diff?

thanks guys
