mobility 9000 --> pc freezes when playing back movie

hi everyone!

i'm new here...

hope some one can help me with my problem. couldnt figure it out yet.

here it goes:

mobility 9000, newest omega drivers on winxp

when ever i start a movie the media player (or winamp, real, windvd etc.) display the first 2 - 3 frames and the sound is played back. then the pc freezes und the sound goes on a few secs. i have to manually reboot...
it's no matter of missing codecs or anything like that. with those old oem drivers its no problem, but most games dont work then.

i also wrote to omega and got a short answer back that theres a readme to fix that problem. couldnt find that readme file...

i'd really appreciate it if some one could help me!

thanks to every one in advance!!

in that readme file you should notice that this problem is due to an older BIOS.
What you should check is the following, go to the manufacturor's website and look for a more recent BIOS for your type of computer.

Till today that's the only way I know to fix this.

And btw, welcome to DH!

I have an acer aspire 1603 laptop with an Ati radeon mobility 9000 card I have install the 4.12 drivers and althought I can play all the games I cant see any dvd or video file and pc freezes. I try to find any update bios at acer.com but there is nothing new. Is there something that I could do.

i have the same problem here. I have an ACER Aspire 1604 en when i try to play back movies, the pc freezes. I have installed Win XP MCE and the pc freezes when i try to play movies, but when i try to play the same movie in the MCE-application, it works. When i lower the 'hardwareacceleration' (till half way), the movie playback works again, but i can't play games no more and the MCE-application doesn't work any more eather :s

I have also the newest BIOS update available for my laptop, but there is not specific update for my display adapter available.

Gracias.

Jumapeg is on a distinguished road

Hello, I had the same problem with my aspire 1603lc, I solved it upgrading the BIOS.
I know that this thread is very old but maybe someone haven't solved the problem yet.

Upgrade your aspire 1600 BIOS from this link: http://support.acer-euro.com/driver...ok/as_1600.html
Then you could use any patje-modified driver, I am using 8.221.0.0 controller right now without any problem, 0 freezes.

I'm spanish, I know my English isn't perfect. Thank you Patje and thank you DriverHeaven forums.

I still have the same problem..

I have had the R01-A1E bios on my Aspire 1603 LM, instead of the R01-A1C bios Jumapeg mentioned (the only one available on the Acer site... ), and even with the patje mobilitytool and the catalyst 6.6 (6.7 gives me a BSOD) I have exactly the same problem. Cannot play movies, it hangs in every player. In the past I solved it by installing older Omegadrivers (I believe it was somewhere around catalyst 5.81) but then games like NFS U were a bit slower.

I tried to install the exact same config als Jumapeg, catalyst 6.2 (version 8.221.0.0) and the same bios (R01-A1C), but still no success..

I have never personally experienced this problem with my Dell Inspiron 8200 with the M9000 card so I don't know if this will help at all, but you might want to try an older version of the Omega drivers. I have heard rumor of problems with video playback with the M9000 and new Omega drivers (and I can't for the life of me remember what version you should download, sorry). Although the problems I've read about were stuttering video, not PC freeze ups, so it most likely is not the problem. But worth a try I would suppose?

one day later the drivers doesn't go, after to Frames I must reboot.
This way goes with all drivers.

Desktop right maus, go to "Characteristics" ( the German word is "Eigenschaften) I don't no the English word, then you have to go "Attitudes" and now "Attitudes".
Next we have to do is to disabel the Hardware acceleration for that go to "Problem treatment" and turn the button to the third position, it means "All Direct Draw-, Direct3D-, Cursor are disabel.(after the Installation you must do this)
Now you can Install all Driver's DNA, ATI, Omega and the Player is ok, it is not satisfying one solution however it is one.

I hope it helps

ok that's all folks
