Mobility U1 (Radeon IGP 320M) crashing

Hi there. I have a Compaq Presario 915us laptop, which has an ATI Mobility U1 (Radeon IGP 320M) video card. Windows XP Home SP2, 768MB RAM. I installed World of Warcraft, and am seeing the same ground texture problems as in this post.

I figured my drivers were probably out of date, so I downloaded and installed the Radeon Omega Drivers 2.6.12 (Catalyst 5.2). On reboot, got a blue screen and restart when trying to load Windows (after the thermometer bar screen, right where it initializes the desktop display). Couldn't read the text of the blue screen because it restarted a fraction of a second after displaying the blue screen. Tried again, same thing.

Performed the cleaning operations and removed the Omega drivers completely. Downloaded the latest Mobility U1 drivers from Compaq, v1.00 C from 2003-05-23. Rebooted. Same thing - blue screen and a restart.

Backed down to the earlier version, v1.00 B from 2002-06-24 and it worked. I'm pretty sure these are the drivers I started out with. Still seeing the same WoW texture funkiness.

Any ideas? I'm pretty much stumped.

have you tried the mobility modder? check out www.hardwareheaven.com/patje
That will allow you to install genuine Catalyst drivers on your laptop. Might just do the trick.

Don't forget to use DriverCleaner Pro to clean whatever may be left from the drivers in safe mode after uninstalling old drivers, and prior to installing new ones.

I am having the same problem with my laptop. I use a HP pavilion ze4400 with the ATI Radeon IGP 320M video card in it. Windows XP. Directx updated, latest video drivers loaded from HP

Latest driver:
Release Date: 2004-06-14 Version: 8.003.3-040515a-016016C

All the outdoor terrain is messed up outdoors. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Welcome to the forum, babadoodey

Your HP driver is very old, and was release long before WoW, and I am guessing is based on an even older driver. Try mobility modded described by Patje in the above post and you can use official latest ATI drivers.

Hey... I have the same video card... IGP320M on my compaq 900us laptop.

I've been updating the drivers on this thing for a while.. but sad to say .. .the only ones that work properly are the CAT4.5 drivers. I use the ones from Omega.

If you install any driver after the Cat 4.5s video playback will crash the computer... ATI says you need to get a new bios update from the manufacturer BUT Compaq/HP hasn't released bios updates for our laptops in a year or 2...

It seems they stopped supporting our laptops.... Dang!

Hi!I had the same problem, fortunately I found the solution!

Just try to disable the overlay in the options of the player! It worked for both Winamp and wmp! I hope it's useful for you too!

As an update, I tried the mobility modder with the latest Catalyst drivers, and still got the crash. I'll try the Omega Catalyst 4.5 drivers as YG007 suggested and see if those boot without crashing (and hopefully fix the WoW problems).

Hi reptile,

Try a bit more drastic approach: Format your PC and then try to install new drivers. I also had alot of problems with my igp320m but now I have cat. 5.5 installed with a bit modified mobility modder patje made(http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthread.php?t=75175)and it works great. Anyway, do not be sattisfied with old drivers because your igp can work better with the new ones. Just keep on trying

I sometimes got the feeling that my igp320m had a mind of it's own...

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I wanted to update you guys (and future internet searchers).

I installed Windows Vista (formerly Longhorn) Beta 1 (Build 5112) on my laptop, and World of Warcraft now works great with Vista's included ATI drivers.

Hi peeps,

First post here, but this forum is number one google hit for the probelm im having with a laptop. The laptop is a Pavilion ZE4410EA and the official driver for it is called ATi Mobilty U1, which as I have found out is the IGP320m GPU.

The problem with the laptop is video playback which crashes after usage greater than an hour. The crashes occur independant of media player used, im going to try disabling the overlays to see if the crashes stop (thanxs vis

). I find it a shame that even though ATi acknowledge tht there is a problem with drivers after Cat 4.5 the companies they provide the chip to are not strong armed into produce a new gfx bios for these systems.

Anyhow I will report back the results

Nice write up Randomness,

I never got round to posting my results, but thanxs to vis, the solution for DVD playback issues is to disable overlays. Since disabling overlays the laptop has been working as it should.

Hope this helps other peeps

This is a thanks to mongoled. My next door neighbor has a Presario 900 (910US) that they received second hand from a family member with all the CD's and documentation. They tried to wipe everything out and start fresh from the recovery CDs. Well they did wipe everything out but the recovery CDs were no good and crashed at around 3% completion. Every time they tried to load in any operating system they would crash. I seem to collect OS(s) and offered to fix it for them. I've tried every OS from Win 2000&XP back to Win95. All loads would stop and die at a major screen change immediately after selecting new, upgrade or repair installation. Seemed like a video driver glitch.

Well, to make a long story short I was able to force a restore using the set from my Presario 5000 desktp. I was able to load in Win ME and got everything reconfigured with the exception of the video driver. As it turned out the laptop has the

ATI 320M chip on it. This forum was a big help. Unfortunately the advice and mods didn't work for me. After having bad thoughts on how many ways I could blow the laptop up I reread mongoled's reply where he named the actual driver as "IGP320m GPU".

Using a properly worded google search for "IGP320m GPU" lead me to the following site...

I found the driver at the very bottom of the page. Catalyst 4.4 works right off the bat. Thanks for the hint mongoled!!! I hope this post helps users with similar problems.

Have you had any luck with modded Catalyst 4.10 drivers? I have them working rather well with the Radeon IGP 320M on my Presario 2100 notebook. I have found that DVD playback becomes a major issue when i try anything newer than 4.11. If you have trouble with modded drivers newer than 4.4, than perhaps i have been looking at the driver model in the wrong places. It would be a great help if you could provide more info on your issue. The catalyst driver model can get rather perplexing with all of its feature sets, but i am still working on it.

Hi everybody. I am on a HP Pavilion ze4300 laptop model and my video card is:
Radeon IGP 320 by ATI Technologies Inc.

The error messege i recieve when I run Multiplayer on Call of Duty 2:
Video card or driver doesn't support dynamic textures.
Error during initialization:
Video card or driver doesn't support dynamic textures.

I went to ATI website and downloaded all of the updates available. Nothing solved my problem.

I appritiate any attempt to help me play the game. Thanks for your help

Have you tried these drivers:

Don't forget to uninstall the old drivers from add/remove programs applet in control panel, and than clean things out with DriverCleaner Pro.

Yeah... I know this is an old thread but I'm having problems with World of Warcraft.. video driver of course.. but I have ATI Mobility IGP 320M and I need to update.. and I can't find the right software to do so... I've heard a lot about this modding program, I've tried it and nothing.. I get the same error when I try to start up WoW, "3-D acceleration could not be started" or whatever.. could somebody please help me?????

I have tried all of the above suggestions on an HP Pavilion ze4325us. The result?

Never again will I even consider buying a machine with ATI, HP, Compaq (or any combination thereof).

When a company won't support a product beyond 2 years it tells tells me either they have no faith in their own product and/or they are only concerned with selling the newest products. Forcing the consumer to.... yeah.. you get the idea. I give the flying finger to HP and ATI.

Ive also tried Omega Drivers. Which was half way successful. I was able to play my games but not DVD's. Unfortunately I can't find the release over there that allowed even that much use of this 10lb paperweight.

If anybody can help me get this back at least game playing state it would be greatly appreciated.
