Resolution problem with official ATI drivers

My laptop's display has a max resolution of 1680x1050, yet the biggest i can get from my drivers is 1440x900.

I am using 5.5 drivers modded with patje's modder, and CCC. Omegas aren't an option because every time i've tried to use them on this system they didn't install right (the drivers didn't install at all).

I have a MR X700.

The old ATI Control Panel. Which Omegas didn't install right, the latest 5.4s?
Try the 5.2 Omegas and see if they install properly.

You may have to force it to recognize as something better than default, so that it would allow you to run higher resolutions. Can you disable DCC detection in your driver control panel? And then set maximum resolution to 1680x1050?

The 5.4 omegas are the ones that didn't work, but i also just tried the 5.2s and that was a no go. Even when I try manually installing the omegas (meaning let windows do it and selct the inf file myself, and the hardware from the list it gives) it doesn't give me the option of the mobility radeon x700.

I'm now going to try ATI's 5.5 with CPanel, and 5.4 with both CCC and CP

thanx, for the vote of confidence, i just installed 5.5 with CPanel as opposed to CCC and it works like a charm, i dunno what's up, but after checking out CPanel again, I'm happy.
I want my omegas back though, I used them on my old laptop, but Gateway decided to replace it (something about smoke coming out of the PSU made them say I needed a new comp)

Thanx all for the help.

You could
1. Unpack omegas
2. Run mobility modder on omega inf for X700
3. Manually install modded omega thru Hw Manager
4. Install cpanel manually from ATi directory C:\ATi\Control Panel by default

umm...while doable, i'm not missing the omegas that much, I think i'll just stick with the 5.5s and just install radlinker separately until omega releases ones that work on my comp.

What happened to cause this? I had a problem with my old laptop similar to this: I plugged it into an external monitor, and went back to the laptop even after a driver reinstall the problem stayed. Good luck to you.

I don't know what caused the omegas to not work, it's a brand new laptop (i've had it for 2 weeks) so i have no clue there, as far as the resolution issue again no clue, using ATI's drivers with CCC it doesn't quite work right, with CPanel it works great, besides CPanel is good enough for me especially with RadLinker also. (I'd still rather have omegas, but as long as they won't work, i'll stick with what i've got.
