Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP drivers for ACER travelmate 2600 laptop

I am a first time user of Driver Heaven. I'd like to start off by saying that you guys have a really nice and helpful community. I'd really like some help at this moment.

OK so I decided to download and install catalyst drivers for my ATI mobility 9000 IGP.
I downloaded the awesome patje mod tool, driver cleaner pro and finally the new 5.5 catalyst driver from the ATI website. I did the following steps:

1. Went into add/remove programs and removed ATI display and ATI control panel.
2. I rebooted in safe mode and ran driver cleaner pro. No problems yet.
3. I rebooted again in normal windows XP and ran Catalyst 5.5. I got the expected error then ran the mobility modder tool by Patje. The mod worked and was succesful.
4. Here is the problem, when i continue to install catalyst. It says the display driver isnt compatible with my display adapter. OK, i think the problem is that the catalyst drivers doesnt recognize that my video card is an ATI because i deleted all old drivers and I cant find the old drivers to install from the ACER website. ACER doesnt seem to offer my old drivers from their website. The recovery CDs that came with my laptop requires me to reformat my entire hard drive. I recently got this laptop, 4 days ago actually. I downloaded a lot and installed a lot of games and programs for my new laptop and dont want to go through the hassle again.
To add to my problem, there are no system restore points available for my laptop as i recently bought it.

I am completely open to suggestions and would greatly appreciate any help.
I think if i am able to find the original video drivers for my laptop that it would fix this but i cant be sure.

System specs:
Acer Travelmate 2600
Windows XP professional
Pentium 4 2.8 ghz
1gig of DDR ram
40gig hard drive.
ATI mobility Radeon 9000 IGP
