AND the driver set cannot be downloaded directly, a tool checks ur PC first before it can continue (and there is no way around hehe) This was probably done to support only the OEM companies that wanted it. Maybe this is not what many expected it to be but Lets hope this is the beginning...

Yea it's a nice start, but it doesn't do me much good with my Dell and a 9600.

ATi said that they will support more models in the coming months so I assume the new set of catalyst mobility will support the 9x00. What's even more disappointing is that there's no 64bit version of the drivers.
Though if you are running the DNA or Omega drivers then it should be fine. |

Well the adoption of the lower cards may be slow thanks to reluctance from manufactureres so we will see.

The normal set works for me using the latest version of mobility modder.
However, as I have point out in the rating thread, enabling AI (standard or advanced) causes instability in 3dMark03 to the point where I get a slideshow at 0fps. Have not had a chance to bench other apps except doom3 which gained a trivial increase (around 0.5fps).

I installed the 5.6s with the DH Mod Tool. With stock settings, no overclocking, 3DMark '05 scores are up 124 points.
Patje, any chance the next version of the Mod Tool will include support for X64? I also made the attempt to install x64 (with the x64 version of the driver) without success.

Actually they don't even support all x700 and x800 only certain brands, (mine for instance doesn't work with the regular installer, still gotta do the modder thing)

Does anyone think this may have something to do with temperature readers or something? Anyone know if the MRX700/800 has temperature sensors, I only have a MR9700 and I know the modded cats and ati tray tools tell me they cant detect a sensor. Maybe the rest of us poor buggers will get official support once they disable the temps page.
One other thing that could be holding support back is that earlier mobility chips had no set standard and clock speeds were changeable depending on system builder. Maybe the X700/800 all have a set clock speeds making them easier to detect. Anyway those are just guesses but i'd like to hear something official from ATI. |

Any hope for eventual support for the 320m (Mobility Radeon 7500) in my Compaq notebook? The Compaq-provided drivers are from early 2004, and the regular Catalysts mess up movie playback.

I have a temperature sensor on my x600, I suppose I can reveal now that I am a mobility catalyst beta tester so they do work on my chip, but the companies are affraid of people messing up their laptops and calling up for support, and ATI don't want the blame, support should be added down the road but dont expect trumpets and keep an eye out.
Since the x700 and x800 are their performance lines its not surprising they will support them and I can see the 9600 like ones getting support, earlier ones I doubt it. However you never know.

right with all the changes that individual laptop companies make to the MR Cards when they get to them, ATi is basically covering their own behind by not making the driver directly for the people, I can't blame them, and it's not their fault compaq, dell, gateway, etc. are a bunch of slackers that can't/won't update the drivers.
