Mobility X300 performance... Not even that great

I just got a new notebook, a Radeon 6000 with a 128 MB 3d card, X300. I run Guild wars or HL2 with all settings minimized and the game skips, I can stand still with no problems, but when I try to move it works on and off. My CPU is a P-M 1.6 and 512 Ram, so I know it is not that. It runs older games no problem though it seems, hmmm.... any help?

I do understand that it is a budget chip, but it seems to work at the lowest settings, but when you move it jumps. I used Driver 5.5 with modder 2.2, I am putting on a fresh install of win XP pro (had home before) and am putting on Omega, see how that works. Dell puts so much crap on there it may have caused 1/2 the problems.

Catalyst 5.5 on my side with 9800 Pro (sig) had a huge lag issue for me in Source engine. I switched to 4.12s and voilla. I will have to see how 5.6s perform when I get home. So it may be related to your problem.

I found out what the problem was, it was a faulty hard drive. Dell sent me out 2 for my trouble :-), it works perfect now. I play prey and other brand new games no problem (since I got a 1 GB memory upgrade). I forgot I posted this a long time ago, thought I would finish it.
