Anybody have a Radeon Mobility M6, talk about it here

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1905-s301... the stats compared to current specs of most laptops and PCs is miniscule. I have a 16mb graphics card that i have been pushing to the limits for 3+ years ever since i knew OmegaDrivers.

Does anybody have a similar crappy card that has been tweaked and improved. Anybody wanna tell their story or have advice on how to better improve these weak laptop graphics cards?

Use a sledge hammer on the old one as an excuse to get a better one?

I have a MR9600Pro. These days I consider it a weak card. I would put a M6 in the obsolete category.

I can play Doom 3, HL2, Farcry - all the demanding titles - but only just. Doom 3 is playable at 800x600 with shadows on, but 640x480 is better. HL2 can be played at medium settings with 2xAA at 1024x768. Farcry - medium settings at 1024x768 is fine. I give it a year before the M10/11s struggle to keep up - particularly because I am limited at 64mb vram.

What kills you with the card is the lack of onboard memory - 64mb is nothing these days and you have to play all modern games in low texture detail and/or lower res's.

Thing is with a 16mb card it won't meet the minimum specs of any new game by a long shot - some now need 128mb minimum. You can tweak a card all you like, but in the end M6s just don't have enough memory. It's given you 3+ years of service which is fantastic, but eventually, you will need to upgrade (assuming you want performance to play newer games).

tried upgrading buddy... its INTEGRATED. i hate laptops. i hate crappy 16mb gfx cards that use 1mb of ram cuz its crappy. if i knew there was better gfx for laptops i would have bought em. BUT 3 YEARS ago there wasnt. Just have u know, my 16mb has gotten me pretty far. it's like an old car i keep pushin.

certainly it doesnt meet the specs, but i ignore them anyways. i have tried the HL2 demo on my laptop, it seemed fine, but i had to minimize the detail somewhat. counterstrike is fine. all other games seem fine. but the new and cooler games might be a bigger challenge yet.

watching dvds is sinch on this heap of metal. what can i do about it? ya think upgrading to 1gb of ram will work? ive been running on 512

i have it on my crappy compaq evo laptop..it works just fine for what I need it to do.
If you're gonna be playing graphically intensive games, I don't know why you would get a laptop....

yeah I know it's integrated, but there are great gaming notebooks out there. ASUS offer some quite powerful notebooks - one with x700 128mb (dedicated) cards in them - 1gb of DDR2, pentium M processor, widescreen etc. These are around $2300 AUD or around US$1800 (although they are probably cheaper elsewhere than Australia). I don't how it works in your neck of the woods, but in Australia, I can claim 100% of the cost of my notebooks as a tax deduction and got around 30% of the cost back, plus 10% sales tax back.

I still think an integrated has given you quite good value because as you said, 3 years notebooks were virtually useless for games.

1gb of ram could help if you are noticing chugging etc because with 16mb you have textures constantly swapping in and out of the video card. But I wouldn't expect miracles.

It will not be TOO long before they are upgradeable. I give it 2 years at the most for the gaming machines.

Yeah, that's what the radlinker thing says from the omega drivers.
I just found this,
http://www.ati.com/products/embedded/mobilityradeon/
which says 143/143. I installed ati tray tools and I was looking at the overclocking options when I got a ton of artifacts so I wasn't sure :/
The omegadrivers default to 165/165....
