Sad Radeon Mobility 9000/9100IGP - Doomed to slowness?

I have installed the latest catalyst drivers using the mod on this website, and still my Radeon Mobility 9000/9100IGP runs as though it was made 5 years ago. Is there no way to boost hte speed on this thing? Every new game I've tried - Doom 3, City of Heros, all run very slowly. Although it runs fine on games 1-3 years old - Warcrat III, etc.

It's on a less than one year old HP notebook zv5240us featuring 3GHz P4, 512MB ram, and has 128 mb video memory. I'm guessing the video card is simply too bad to fix.

Are there any expert opinions out there on any ways around the slowness?

Thanks.

Anyone have any opinions? I tried RadLinker, and if I move my rate up more than 50ish it freezes my notebook.

Your card does meet the minimum requirements of Doom 3 - but only just, so you should expect to only be able to play it an the minimum settings. There is very little you can do to improve the performance of the card to the extent that you make otherwise unplayable games playable. So, you need to play Doom3 without any candy. I would suggest: 640x480, no AA, no AF, no shadows, no bump mapping, no specular/diffuse mapping, no high quality special effects. See this doom3 tweak guide for more things you can do to tweak the program itself: Doom 3 Tweak Guide

Thanks for the advice/tips. I tried omega, and it froze my system. No big deal though, I'll just look to buying a desktop soon - for more graphic intensive programs.

And, thanks KYPREO for the Doom tips.

I've an IGP 9000/9100 and i tweaked DOOM3 also used omega drivers.I've reached 20-30 fps with specular lighting and shadows are enabled.Using shared memory , higher resolutions causes more slowdown than expected.Keep resolution lower , effect and other things open.Core clock is not too bad(at leat mine).Increase your RAM.512 MB - 128 MB is not enough RAM.Care to tweaking it's necessary for you , use game specified tweaks if there is.Use Humus ATI tweak for DOOM3.Also HL2 works very well in high options on 800x600

It was made 4 years ago. The Radeon 9000 is similar to the 8500 desktop Radeon, which came out in 2001.

Similar but actually slower on the whole. And the mobile variants are invariably slower than their desktop counter parts.

That being said for some odd reason NFS:Underground ran "smoother" on my old Gateway with M9 with the dedicated 64MB of VRAM as compared to my new Dell with the MX300 with its 128MB of VRAM. My guess on this though is that since the X300 is way more powerful that the framerate is spiking more often.
