9200 AGP settings

Hey,

Battlefield 2 demo just doesnt work with 9200's, at all. Anyway, before I figured this out, I was messing with all my settings, updating drivers, blah blah. I changed my agp from either 8x to 4x or 4x to 2x (I forgot which I did).

I left it alone, thought all was good, and played my regular game, World of Warcraft. Whoa, huge performance issues.

Oh yeah, agp is set too low!

Got the new Omega 5.6s. Check the smartgart options and... AGP is set to OFF! And, the only option is 2x! (the slider doesnt even show 4x or 8x). I switch it to 2x, restart, and its right back on off.

Needless to say, this isnt good for perfomance.

I've: Flashed the bios, uninstalled all drivers, installed new chipset drivers (Ati's mb/video card drivers). All in all I've spend 3 hours on this thing. I'm a professional computer tech, and this is driving me nuts.

Any help is really appreciated.
Willing to format, if that will work. Thanks,

I messed with this thing all day long, with no luck. I'm just going to reformat it and call it good. It needs a cleaning anyway, what with school coming up fast.

System Specs

BF2 does work with the 9200 offically, it works with some and doesn't with some.
Thats from the game developers who said it was to unstable on 9200 to list in the
approved list of cards. Wich the 9200 isn't..

So you need a better video card

Its a laptop, so thats sorta hard to do...

Anyway, WoW is the game I usually play, and I'm very happy with the performance (need more RAM though).... when its not set to AGP off!

ARGH. I just reformatted and installed 5.6 again. NO LUCK. Its still set at AGP OFF. Why?!

After much searching, the concensus shows new chipset drivers fix the problem. The problem is, I have no idea what chipset drivers I have. I heard theyre ATI, but I dont really know.

I have a HP Pavilion ZX5000.

The video card is supposed to be AGP 8x.

Which zx5000 do you have? I've got the zx5190us, so it says in one place that it's a ATI9200, but in reality, it's an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 64mb Dedicated, 128 shared. I also have a gig of ram. I play BF2 at fairly decent frame rates (40 to 60, depending on everything else). I used Everest's Lavalys proggy to tell me all my PC info, and according to it, the chipset on mine is actually a ATI chipset w/2 3.2 p4 processors. (I think it says 2 because it's hperthreading, and there's no way to shut that crap off, since it being a laptop has a pretty non-adjustable BIOS. )

Acording to Lavalys, this is my mobo chipset info.

Its a zx5000, just plain ole 5000.

I figured it out. The 5.6's just dont work with it. I go back to 5.4's and everything is just perfect again. Thanks for your help.

What program is it that gives you all that info?

The program is Lavalys from Everest. It's free and it's a great utility for finding all the info on your laptop.

Don't worry, your not alone in having problems trying to play Battlefield 2 using a ATI Radeon Mobility 9200 card. I bought the game this week and installed it on my Sony Vaio laptop. Only to find the game re-booted my laptop everytime I got to the start menu and tried to access the game. In the end I had to take the game back and get a refund. It did say on the games box though that it requires 128mb memory on the card minimum and recormends 256mb. Seeing as the 9200 mobilty only comes with 64mb (well mine does anyway). I thought the laptop was re-booting due to lack on graphics memory.

I could be wrong though like mentioned above and the card is simply just not supported. It was not mentioned on the box as being suported either wich was not good news.

I finsished up changing the game for Half Life 2 that came with counter strike source, which worked perfect. It even was displayed in Widescreen mode using the full width of my laptop screen 15.4, unlike some games which show black bars to the left and right of the screen with the game only using a fraction of the screens display in the middle. So I would highly recormend Half Life 2 for people using a Radeon mobility 9200 card. It also lets you use the full res which in my case was somthing like 1280X800 in widescreen mode. That game seems to fully support this card
