ATI 5.8 and 1280x800 res

I don't think this has already been pointed out...

The "old" ATI drivers on my laptop (a Fujitsu Amilo M 1425) allow me to display a resolution of 1280x800 on a Radeon 9600/9700.

I recently installed 5.8 Catalyst and to my surprise, the only similar resolution allowed was 1280x780. So, I have only 2 options, according to CCC:

- Use Expanded image size to occupt the full area of LCD ---> This causes a significant decrease in image sharpness.

- Use Centered Timings ---> This corrects sharpness to the way it used to be, but shrinks overall image size by adding black horizontal stripes above and below.

So, I ask:

1 - Why didn't ATI predict a newer version with 1280x800 resolution or at least a maintain aspect-ratio option when expanding image?

2 - And, is there any other version (DNA or whatever) that can update drivers and solve this problem?

Hi Paracelsus,

Welcome to the forum.
I'm guessing you used the ATI mobilty drivers? or did you use the modtool to mod the desktop 5.8's?
You could try omega drivers aswell but before you do I can aslo suggest u use Powerstrip to add the resolution.

Thanks for the quick reply, patje.

Yes, I've used the official ATI Mobility drivers.

I've checked Powerstrip homepage (thanks for the link) and I 'll try it. If it works, it will turn out to be a good solution, I think. I'll write something in a while...

System Specs

The drivers you installed only support the X800 and the X700. 9600/9700 series are not supported yet.

Either try the Omega's drivers or use Powerstrip to add that resolution.

Ok, Powerstrip didn't work out - changing from 1280x768 to 1280x800 (i used the saved settings from the previous ATI driver) turned out bad with a very strange display.

Going for Omega's drivers BTW, the ATI Mobility drivers were specifically to 9600/9700 Radeon, at least that was the link I chose form the several different models.

Where did you get the drivers from? On ATI's website it says they are only supported for the X700/X800 serires.
