Problem with Radeon m11

Hi all.

I am running acer ferrari 3200 and I have an unusual (at least I think so) problem with the video adapter. I've installed Catalyst 6.14.10.6476 from Acer's ftp. It works quite wellin 3D, but in the 2D mode several seconds after windows (xp) starts some color points and stripes appear on the monitor.

Some days ago I've read a post of another 3200 owner. He had the same problem and even had taken his laptop to the acer's service center. After 3 weeks, when he had got it back, he had been said that they had found nothing. But when he started his laptop at home, the stipes where there. Unfortunalety, I can 't now find this message or it's author.

I' ve tried to install the latest omega radeon drivers (6.0.1.4) and Catalyst 5.8 (using patje's dhmodbeta2d), and in 2D it works well. But if I try to run any 3D applications (call of duty, ut2004, 3d mark 2003...) the monitor becomes totally black, but I can hear the music. ALT TAB or ALT F4 doesn't help. So I have to reboot the system.

Have anybody heard about this kind of problems whith 9700 drivers?

P.S. Thanks for any help.

P.P.S. The chipset drivers and the bios are up to date.

P.P.P.S. Sorry for my english. I hope you understand all I mean.

Welcome to DH Gor, and your English is just fine...

To test, I would go back to Acer's latest driverset (looks like there is a driver problem with your laptop and the latest driver from ATI and/or Omega - another issue...) then hook up an external monitor that mirrors what you have on your laptop's built in screen. If the stripes show on the external monitor too, then you likely have a hardware problem that you can describe to Acer.

I have got an Acer Ferrari 3200 too and I've this problem too since Cat 5.4...
I use WIn x64 but this problem occured on Win32 too. The only thing that I can advice you is to use a 1280x1024 resolution for your desktop and forget about using 1400x1050 on 3D Apps.

It solves the problem but I know that as a consequence, the desktop seems to be blur.

Or, if you prefer, you can use the "tile screen" option, but if you play in 1024x768, you'll have the impression of playing on a GameBoy

I hope this problem to be fixed on next release of Catalyst but after 6 months I am quite pessimistic...

P.S.: this problem is still not solved on Cat 5.9 and it doesn't matter if you use CCC or CP...
