Toshiba Laptop ATI Radeon 9700 Blue Screen Crashes

A friend of mine just bought a Toshiba Satellite P30-RV2 with ATI Radeon 9700 128MB DDR Mobility.

Everything was fine, and he was able to play a couple of games at first (some 3D intensive ones I believe). Until recently, the games will run for 3-20 minutes, and the laptop will totally freeze (15% chance), or simply turn into a blue screen (most of the time). There is nothing we can do but to hard-reset the machine. He uninstalled the games, and even went as far as using the recovery disc that came with the computer (since he aint got nothing in the laptop but the games anyway). Still the game wont run, and this time wont even install properly. The installation will take the computer into blue screen that says something like:

"If this is the first time u see this error...restart...blah blah blah"
"try disable shadowing or caching in BIOS...etc"
"Stop Message 0x0000fc (or whateva number i cant remember)"
"Beginning physical memory dump...blah blah blah"

Sorry i couldnt be more specific about the error message, cos its simply tooo long for my tiny little brain. But one thing he said was that he remembered the screen once (or more than that) said something about display driver...

I looked at a couple of threads and it seemed like some other people had similar problems.

So my question is...

Is installing the Omega thingie (ofcos after cleaning out the old drivers) the only solution so far? and how well does the Omega work?

I am quite a comp-illiterate....sorry about the blurryness in my post.

Btw...the driver he was using is the one that came with the laptop
ATI Display Driver and AGP Chipset Driver
6.14.10.6458

(this is wat it says on the Toshiba Satellite P30 driver site)

So what do you pros recommend us do?
