Hi folks, I've a really strange problem with my new IBM thinkpad T43 (with x300 64MB).
I tried to run Total Overdose and Fable on it. T.O randomly crashes and Fable always crashes when the first ingame image appears (so just when the graphic engine is loaded). In fact T.O do not "randomly" freeze. I discovered that it runs perfectly when the laptop is using the battery and crashes when it's plugged. I think it has something to do with ATI's Powerplay feature but I would have expected crashed when in "power saving" mode, not "performance" !! The other thing is that ATI won't let me download their mobility catalyst drivers because IBM is not a supported manufacturer. And I don't know if I can use the Mobility driver available here on driverheaven, or the regular ones with PATJE's mod. So my current drivers are the original ones, provided by ibm and it don't mention which version of catalyst it is. If anyone has an idea on where my probleme comes from : every tips will be appreciated ! Last edited by neFAST; Oct 4, 2005 at 04:15 PM. Reason: details added |

You should be able to use the 5.9 mobility drivers from here as the post announcing them said they would work on any laptop with the right graphics card, no mention of supported manufacturers. No idea about the crashes though, unless the laptop is overheating in performance mode.

I upgraded drivers to the latest catalyst mobility and now Fable acts just like the other game : i runs fine with powerplay on the lowest level, and diplay black screen with sometimes white stripes when powerplay is on medium or high performance. At last windows don't crash, as I can play like if I were blind, but you guess I don't enjoy games a lot with my screen turned off.
I think it's not related to overheating, cause I checked and the computer is not that hot.

I still have this problem, but am I alone ? I tried fresh installs of Catalyst 5.9, 5.10 and Omega 5.9 and it keeps crashing when Powerplay is set on medium or high, and run perfectly on low. HELP \o/ |

do you have Ati tray tool, CHC or any other system tools running, sounds like when i had the problem with CHC trying to clock one speed and power play clocking it at another
try disabling power play too |
