Maintain Aspect Ratio

Greetings! I'm new here, but I'd like to make a request due to both ATI and laptop manufacturer's turning their backs on users such as myself. For many owners for widescreen notebooks with ATI cards, fullscreen games cannot be played at 4:3 resolutions, without significant distortion. Why? The image gets stretched to the widescreen ratio. ATI supposedly has support for a feature known as "Maintain aspect ratio," but this option is for some reason unavailable to many users. It seems that notebooks with the Mobility 9600/9700 make up the majority of problem machines.

If you head over the the DNA Drivers website, you'll see that one of the most popular threads is a request to add the feature to those modified drivers. So, my question is, why is this option not available, and why don't ATI or the computer companies care about us? It is beyond unacceptable business practice.
