1280 x 800!?

Hey,

I've got a widescreen 1280 x 800 screen on my laptop, the old Omega Drivers worked fine... but the news ones wont let me select this resolution at all... so I get a stretched (or if I go higher.. 'virtual') desktop which is annoying... I'm gonna roll back soon, but I do want to upgrade... so any ideas? (Tried using the manual thing - RefreshFix, doesn't seem to work )

Any ideas?
Thanks

brettuk, what laptop do you have? I have a Mitac 8050, Evesham brand. GPU is m11 (9700).

Thumbs Up!

I am not certain about the Omega Drivers, but this problem is fixable on the ATI mobility drivers through an edit of an .inf setup file. See: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...5&page=4&pp=15

The advice there is to uninstall and reinstall, but I found that a simple reinstall of the drivers (only) after editing this .inf file worked. Simply run the setup.exe file in the drivers folder. My laptop immediately defaulted right to the 1280x800 after a reboot. The Control Panel and games, etc. seem to work fine.

Good luck.

My laptop: Emachines 6805 (ATI mobility 9600 w/ 64mb dedicated)

For some reason (this will sound weird) I was using powerstrip and my changes wouldnt be accepted. My laptop is pretty new and I made an adminstrator account I could name after the update (and after I tried to fix the resolution). I uninstalled power strip, and the activated the new user account and Cataylist started detecting 1280x800 res. I dont know why but it worked for me, I guess it wouldnt hurt to try.

Your changes with power strip porbably did work. I used to use PStrip way back to get the wide screen, I would install PStrip, set the resolution and uninstall it and the settings would remain.
