Prolems with Mobility 9700
Hello everyone. This is my first time posting here, since I rarely have problems with my computer. But lately it’s been driving me crazy.
I own a P4 3.4 Clevo laptop with a ATI Mobility 9700 video card. Lately I have been having this problem where my computer seems to slow down immensely and I have to re-install my video drivers. I’ve tried the ATI drivers from their website, and now the OMEGA drivers, but every once in a while the same problem comes up and nothing seems to be working. I’ve tried System Restore, and that doesn’t even seem to work. The only thing that works is re-installing the drivers. The weird thing is that it also sets my desktop appearance back to “Windows XP Style” (I usually have it on “Windows Classic Style). Also, I work a lot with video, and I’ve noticed that the drivers usually go awry when I view compressed Windows Media Video files. Here are my specs: Windows XP Professional, SP 2 P4 3400 Mhz Phoenix Technologies LTD 6.00 BIOS 60 GB Hard Drive Mobility 9700 Below are my hardware conflicts, which I’m not sure how to resolve… Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to AGP Controller - 2571 ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series (Omega 2.6.71) PCI bus Direct memory access controller Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to AGP Controller - 2571 ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series (Omega 2.6.71) IRQ 5 Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller IRQ 5 Intel(R) 82801EB SMBus Controller - 24D3 IRQ 5 PCI Modem I/O Port Motherboard resources I/O Port System timer I/O Port Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to AGP Controller - 2571 I/O Port ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series (Omega 2.6.71) IRQ 16 Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D2 IRQ 16 Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24DE IRQ 16 ENE CB1410 Cardbus Controller IRQ 17 ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series (Omega 2.6.71) IRQ 17 Realtek AC'97 Audio IRQ 19 Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D4 IRQ 19 Gigabyte GN-WIAG Wireless Network miniPCI Adapter Memory Address PCI bus Memory Address Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to AGP Controller - 2571 Memory Address ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series (Omega 2.6.71) I/O Port Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to AGP Controller - 2571 I/O Port ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series (Omega 2.6.71) Memory Address Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to AGP Controller - 2571 Memory Address ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series (Omega 2.6.71) Thank you in advance! |

probably should post this in the ATI driver section...or the Laptop section.
anyway there could be any number of reasons for this. Does it work fine for awhile after freshly installing the drivers? If so then its probably not a hardware problem. Have you tried out drivercleaner? THAT will probably fix your problem right there. Its available here on driverheaven. uninstall your drivers, get into safe mode, run drivercleaner and clean off your ATI drivers with drivercleaner (easy as pie). then restart and get into normal mode and install some new drivers. oh yeah, the 5.10s have been buggy for me on every distro so far...massive slowdowns on different games. its kinda weird. Could be unrelated to what happened to you, but possibly it may be the same thing. Try the 5.9s or even 5.8s.
