Mobility 9200 Resolution problem

Hi im new at all this stuff so bear with me.
First off I have a HP nx7000 Laptop with a ATI Radeon 9200 graphics card.
I just purchased a Dell 2005FPW Widescreen Monitor because my laptop screen broke and I didnt feel like going through the hassel of getting it fixed. So my monitors max Resolution is 1680x1050 but because of my driver I am forced to run at 1280x1024. I tried updating my Display Drivers and nothing has worked, I also tried downloading a few Omega Drivers and nothing they havent worked either. Before I bought the monitor I checked Dell's website and it said that the mobility 9000 supported the resolution with a Driver update, so I figured why wouldnt the 9200 also support it. To tell you the truth it looks good the way it is, I just want to have the monitor running at the settings it was built to run on. If anyone has any suggestions please try and help me out. Thank you in advance.

additional info

I also wanted to let you know I currently dont have my laptop monitor even hooked upto my laptop and i am strictly running on the New Monitor. I have all the old laptop monitors settings turned off and the new monitor set as the primary source. Just incase that matters

Hey Ryan,

I'm spamming this post pretty much in all the threads where people are having issues dirving external widescreens from their Mobility Radeon card. Sorry if this is against the rules; there are so many threads to sort through for a person who searches, I figure I should put MY answer in as many of the places (and they're all appropriate) as I can.

I was having the same issue with my Mobility Radeon 7500 and Widescreen. I got it to work (with quite a bit of effort), and just wrote up a webpage summary and posted it to my personal website.

I hope it's OK to link; best to get the information (and pictures) off there. All the real credit goes to those who wrote ModTool.

Thanks!

I also have an HP nx7000 and have a problem with an external LCD Samsung SyncMaster 215TW. My problem is the same, I cant use the resolution 1680x1050. The above mentioned link does not seem to work anymore. Anyone have a guide from that site ?

Thanks...
