Force DirectX 8 Shaders?

Is there a way to force DirectX 8.1 shaders in a game such as Battlefield 2? The only way I can play games like HL2 and FEAR with decent settings and framerates is by forcing DX8 shaders. I've heard that EA was in bed with nVidia when they made the game, and made a deal to force DX 9 drivers so people would have to get newer video cards. I don't find that unbelievable, as EA is a pretty scummy company, and nvidia has done a few obnoxious things in the past.

Seems, like there may be hope for you - there is a mod, which can force specific shader usage, see here

The link on the site you linked is dead, and the mod apparently only works in single player, anyway (gets detected as a cheat thanks to Punk Buster).

Sorry to hear that, it's really unfortunate, but then again they are far from being the only ones pushing the envelope.

I wonder what's going to happen with the gfx market once we reach a similar limit with as we did with CPUs when it comes to frequency .... Then it really should make them optimize.
