Mobility x200 express.....

... Is this an extremely limited chipset?

I bought my HP zv6000 series notebook because I thought the x200 with 128MB of ram would rock.

well, it's PLAYING like a rock, at least..... CoD2 is nearly impossible to play. FEAR is somewhat OK. Quake IV doesn't draw 90% of the textures and at 2 frames a second, it's unplayable.

Did I get a lemon of a chipset? Any possible options for rays of hope? I'm using the Omega Drivers (5.10a) and am getting the best performance so far, but still many titles are just so crappy, it's frustrating.

Thanks for any advice/input.

System Specs

x200 is decent for an integrated video option...but it's not the same as having a dedicated GPU. That's a shared memory deal, right? I wouldn't expect it to handle high requirement games like FEAR or Quake IV very well except at lower resolutions with lower video settings.

Actually, it's 128MB dedicated.

There is a BIOS option to allow pulling an additional 128MB from the system's 1GB of memory to give the video a pleasant 256MB of graphics power.... but in all honesty..... it doesn't seem to help much.

Is it possible to switch out the GPU on this notebook? Maybe I can up it a bit that way.

Tha model of the notebook is the HP Pavillion ZV6100. AMD 3500+, 1GB Ram, 128MB ATI Mobility x200.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Crash Override is an unknown quantity at this point

are you sure that you have all the drivers and everything installed properly?

I have an X300 in my laptop (its actually a pullout PCIe card) and its just a little more powerful than the X200 integrated and it even plays halflife 2 at 1680x1050 without issues.

I also have a zv6000 and am also having problems running COD2 and advanced games of that sort. I have the newest Omega drivers installed.

Specs:

AMD 64 3200+

1.25 gigs of ram
x200M graphics card

Ive been reading on forums and have seen that the x200 has been an issue for people trying to run these games and I am wondering if there is any way to make these games run better.

System Specs

X200 is a "value" soultion that is far better intel or sis IGP. AS it has
full DX9 support and it a hardware soultion. The performance fault lies
in it doesign a X200 is = to a X300 turbo cache. But thats thae way it
designed to be "cheaper" but lesser soultion

The "cache" in turbo cache on express 200 models are optional for the
MFG (Useally 16 or 32MB of dedicated memory on the board it self).
Where as the turbo cache helps out quite a bit in the way of the card
performance as it shares / uses the system memory....

It seems to run quite a few games just fine as long as you turn down the
resoultion and in game video settings. AS well as you performance slider in
the CP should be on performance.

If you where really looking for gameing on a laptop you should of went for
one with say the mobile X800 but that surely will cost you a heck of ALOT
more $$$

So how exactly does the Cache and turbo cache work? Is it something that I can upgrade or change to improve the performance of the X200M and overall graphics performance of the computer?

Still curious about this.....

As I have not found anything to really help... it has it's own integrated RAM and also allows to borrow an additional 128MB of system RAM for a total of 256MB. Is this a hopelessly integrated chip, or can I change it out or boost it up somehow??

Thanks,
ResDog
