Need help updating X600 Drivers

Hey everyone, I have an HP ZD8000 laptop with the X600 ATI Mobility card. When I go to ATI, it says that I cannot update from ATI and that I have to go to my manufacture for driver updates, the problem is, HP hasn't updated there X600 drivers in months. If I go ahead and use the modtool here at driverheaven I can install the latest catalyst and everything seems to run great, but when I go to switch resolutions, my screen turns colors and fades out. I am guessing there is a conflict with the LCD screen and the X600.

Anyone else in a similar position?
What drivers have anyone used to update their X600?
Any suggestions?

Seems that HP isn't very concerned in updating their drivers and this is very bothersome.
What's the deal with this? Why aren't us Laptoper's being catered too, at all?
Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, I will check out the link you gave me. At this point, I have nothing to loose. And yes, the omega's totally screwed my laptop when I tried to install them last night. They work great on my desktop, my it's like poison for my laptop.

Thanks again.

If you havent already done so, try uninstalling your drivers with DriverCleaner first (read instructions, run in safe mode). I've never heard of that problem, sounds like it could be a failing LCD. First question, what resolution are you changing it too. Second question, is it supported on your LCD. LCD displays only support a limited number of resolutions and refresh rates. I would also hesitate to try any modded drivers that don't have a good name to them, as they can create problems that can be hard to fix. I would personally mod the official cats before going to some unknown site for drivers.

It may also be a good idea to test your monitor for error, tools can probably found at the manufacturers website. Submit an error report to Omega to see if he can get you some help, he is very good that way. Good luck.

If you are having troubles with omegas sets then just use our mobility modder www.hardwareheaven.com/patje to mod the offical ATI drivers and install them. the site pimping link in this thread which has been since removed was just a Driverheaven mobility modder altered set anyway so it is best to get the modder from the source and do it yourself - we also offer support in our tools forum as well as our ati forums.

I also strongly suggest that people READ the rules on Driverheaven about site pimping, once someone does this then another 50 people join in and before you know it we have a mess here with people having problems getting support from the source site, DH.

Accounts will be terminated if this continues.

Hi Zardon. I tried the patje mod and intstalled the latest drivers but had the same symtoms. I followed the link given in the deleted post, and that seemed to fix my dilema. I understand what you are saying though, and didn't even realize that the link was directed to another site. I find driverheaven and it's membership very useful and without yall around, most of us would be in some serious dodo.

I tried it with the official ATI 5.10, 5.11 and now 5.12. For some reason, everything is fine and I can load up 3dmark05 and all my current games, HL2 BF2 NWN's and COD just fine. The problem occurs when I go to change resolutions while in a game, or change the AA and AF settings. Note, this only happens when in 3d games. Once I apply some new settings, the screen just starts to fade to white dots until it fills the screen and I have to perform a hard shutdown. I run tests on my LCD screen and everything checks out fine. I always use a driver cleaner program to wipe out old files from the system and completey removed everything from my system before updating drivers. The problem wasn't with the tool, the tool worked great as it allowed me to install the drivers, my problem is getting the drivers to perform in a normal way.

Earlier I installed a mod version of 5.12 from this site and I ran Neverwinter and 3dmark05 just fine. I haven't played with the settings in game though. I am afraid of the screen crapping out on me again. The one thing I was thinking of, was the refresh rate, which my monitor runs at 1440x900 at 60hz(highest available resolution). In the CCC, I set the overide to 60hz to make sure any games wouldn't change the refresh rate on me. I kept thinking that the refresh was going above my allowed range and that was what was happening to my screen. Also, I was thinking that with the 5.12 drivers for instance, aren't communicating with my GPU and my LCD and were giving me choices while in-game of resolutions that aren't supported by my screen. To me this seems to be the issue, but what do I know. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

PS- I downloaded the opera browser (from your sig), I have been meaning to check that browser out, very impressive. Firefox is my drug of choice though.

Well the issue could be that the drivers arent supporting your monitor resolution correctly which could be leading to games trying a resolution your monitor isnt supporting which is leading to out of sync issues. I know my mate had a monitor with the same resolution as yours and when he used a modded driver he had to use powerstrip to set up a custom resolution. Probably not related to this issue you are having, to be honest im more familar with nvidia mobile solutions but im sure some guys in here will have some tips or answers.

???

Dozer,

I'm running a HP zd8001ap and had a similar experience. I upgraded using the patje mod and all was fine. My problem started when the Spec Ops upgrade came out and I started getting stuttering when using tear gas in Spec Ops. I thought my drivers were having a problem rendering so I installed the latest ATI Mobility drivers

5-7-mobile_xp_dd_ccc_enu_24089
CATALYST 5-7-mobile
File Version 8.152-050629m-024089C

Running BF2 I would get literal white screen once I selected "video options" or attempted to enter a game. I thought there was some compatibility issue with the latest drivers.

I run WinXp SP2 with .Net V2 and DX 9.0c. I followed the ATI TweakGuide by Koroush Ghazi.

End result - graphics problems in Windows and a totally nuked laptop. I called HP and was told my X600 unit had failed. Dropped the laptop to the HP service centre later that morning (Thursday) in Adelaide. Picked up my laptop with new mainboard incorporating new X600 yesterday morning - 1 day turn around the day before Christmas holidays - what service! And yes the X600 had literally melted down - only the second such reported failure for a zd8001ap.

Anyhow I installed the latest Omega drivers

rad_w2kxp_omega_2653

Now in BF2 I am getting issues with areas appearing black, or transperancy issues when inside structures (like tunnel in Kubra Dam). So now I'm stuffing around trying to get BF2 to work

Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Testing386

Yeah, no luck here at all. If I use the drivers that come with the laptop, which are the same drivers listed on the hp website, my system runs fine without problems but my performance is terrible. It is nice to see HP took care of you like that, that is one reason I like HP's in general. I have never had a back experience with them, unlike other companies hmmm.... DELL hmm.... Anyway, I just wish HP would at least offer a driver update or something for our boards. I don't think there is anything wrong with my x600, but you never know. For some reason, as I said earlier, once I go to change graphic settings while in game, my screen goes on a crazy acid trip so to speak.

Are you experiening the white dots and monitor fading out to white crap as well? I have been searching all over the net about this situation but can't seem to find any help. Hopefully someone can help us here. I do appreciate the previous responses, just no luck yet though.

Dozer,

I just removed the Omega drivers and installed my last good ATI install.

5-7_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_24085
CATALYST 5-7
File Version 8.152-050629m-024085C

Small issue is that after I removed the Omega drivers, ran RegCleaner, DriverCleaner Pro THEN go to install CATALYST 5-7 it bombs because it cannot find a vga driver.

However I just ran Dhmodtool2.2 and presto it works but without the full catalyst suite installed. So far BF2 is working fine - tested it in local server mode.

I was getting tiling on my display before it had the total melt down. Another friend with an X800 in a small format box is reporting similar problems with the latest ATI driver pack. He actually got a GPU hardware lock to occur in BF2.

I am so happy it the GPU died now as I only have two more months of warranty left.

I'll post after I give BF2 a good work out...

I hope no one gets mad that I am posting in this thread a month later. I did not see a solution to this problem here. I am also having this problem with my HP zd8080US and ATI X600 when trying to use the Omega drivers.

My screen does the fade thing at any instance of D3D though, which really sucks.

I stilll have the same issue toolpunk, can't seem to find a work around. Been using the ati drivers off the HP website that are extremely outdated. I contacted HP and wrote to them to find out when they would be updating our X600 drivers and haven't heard back. I would at the least be happy if we had updated drivers, because I know we can get more out of our cards. I think it's pretty lousy that HP won't support this card, most of us did pick this laptop up for a little gaming and some driver support for our video card would make sense.

The only thing that I have done to improve performance is using an overclocker called "ATI TOOL" , if you google it you should be able to find it. I bump up the gpu speed and memory speed a bit and it seems to help a little, I just don't won't to burn out my card though. I wouldn't get to aggressive with your timings though, as our laptops tend to get extremely hot if you increase too high.

Let me know if you hear anything about drivers and such and I will do the same.

I have also tested the patching tool here for use with the regular ATI Catalyst Driver set. I ran the Direct X diagnostic to test the D3D support and made it throught the Direct X 7 test but as soon as the Direct X 8 test started my screen got wiped out again. Back to the Old HP drivers I went.

My next step is upgrading my RAM to it's limit (2GB and the fastest speed possible). Since My 256MB On-Board ATI X600 uses shared memory (My RAM), this cuts my 1GB of PC2-3200 400Mhz down to 768MB. With system resources and background processes eating away at the 768MB, that doesn't leave much left for when I go to run a good 3D game. If you have had experience in 3D gaming you know that ample RAM helps a lot.

Aside from this, if I still need that extra edge and HP won't get off their lazy behind or a thirdparty set of drivers never fully supports my zd8080, I will then try out one of the overclocking tools. I always use overclocking as a last resort, I don't like the idea of tweaking things that should be left up to the maker of the product (but if they would have done it in the first place we wouldn't have to).

Here is a link to an Un-Official Support forum for HP zd7000/zd8000 users where others (including myself) have stated the same issues with the Omega Drivers:

There are many, many HP ZD Notebook users stacking up that would really appreciate support through third party ATI drivers. Many have had no luck with the Omega or any of the third party drivers including ATI's Mobility drivers. All are reporting the WSOD when trying to run 3D applications or even more smaller things such as changing the display resolution. Current HP drivers for the ZD ATI chipsets are set back at 6/05 and as of yet there are no signs of a new release.

I have not talked to anyone yet that has been able to get the Omega drivers working properly under a 3D environment without experiencing the WSOD. If there is anyone that can get in touch with the Omega team and see if they would be willing to help in this area or can shed any light on this issue, I am sure that it would be very much appreciated.

Thank You.

posted the following at ..
refer to viewtopic.php?f=23&t=6871&p=80104#p80104
for graphics issues, hibernation, geting newer drivers installed and working, vista supported, aero supported, and WSOD issues
Posting here as well, in cause there is any issues with linking to other forums..
---------------------------------------------------------
I didnt read over ALL the posts, but a good part of them. Basicly, I'm here to help, (ok ok.. so now that my eago trip is over). anyways, here is the steps to fix the issue, as there are specified versions of the drivers you have to install, in a certain way.

Windows XP (all versions)
1.goto www2.ati.com/drivers/cat-uninstaller.exe and download the uninstaller, run it, restart PC
2.goto the manfacturers of your laptop, and download the newest drivers for your graphics card, and install, restart PC.
3.download http://count.mydrivers.com/download.asp ... 7.11xp.zip
5.extract, and install normaly, restart PC

This will get you up and runing with 7.11 of the drivers, with being able to support resolution changes, hibernation, and multiple additinal resolutions for screen paning.

Windows Vista (tested with vista home and ultimate, should work on all versions)
**first** download te following...
www2.ati.com/drivers/cat-uninstaller.exe
http://count.mydrivers.com/download.asp ... 7.11xp.zip

1.goto your manufacturers website, and download newest drivers. (dont install)
2.goto www2.ati.com/drivers/cat-uninstaller.exe and download the uninstaller, run it, restart PC into safe mode
3.while in safe mode, left click start menu > right click my computer > left click properties > lift click device manager > double click display adapters > Double click the video card > left click on Drivers > left click on update drivers ...
choice browse my computer > let me pick from a list > click have disk > click browse > and point it to the INF file that is normaly in the a driver folder or INF folder from your manufacturers driver package (may have to extract these files from a zip before finding them)
4.Restart computer normaly when it asks you to
5.download http://file6.mydrivers.com/display/ATI_ ... 7.11xp.zip
6.extract all files from this, but dont install, (notate where the files are extracting to)
7.repeat step #2, BUT this time, choose the inf fle from the folder you saw it extract everything to, not the manufacturers drivers, restart when it asks you to
8.download the 7.11 vista drivers from http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vist ... sta32.html
9.run install, let everything extracts to a specified location (notate that location, will use it in a few mins). after extraction, th setup or install trys to run, CANCEL IT.
10.goto http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool/ ... download, and install, read over instruction, and use tool to mod the files that were extracted in last step.
11.again, repeat #2, but this time, point to the new modded drivers (ex: C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-11_vista32_dd_54440\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH_IN F ) .. choose the display card, and restart when it asks ya to.. you will know have the vista Aero, higher rating for vista, and able to change res, and support hibernate..

Questions anyone??
