ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 @ 1440x900 | why not available?
hello world.
I own a Asus A6V laptop, that won't offer the 1440x900 resolution, which I would need for a 19" widescreen TFT, I consider to buy. It won't work with the original nor with the Radeon Omega Drivers 2.6.87 (Catalyst 5.12) driver, which I just tried out. But there are a lot of 17" laptops that come with a ATI Radeon Mobility 9700, that support 1440x900 since it's the display's native resolution. So is there any chance to get 1440x900 running? Would be very very grateful for a solution or any hints! regards, Inquisitor |

Is that resolution higher htan your native screen's resolution? Most only offer the main screen's native resolution as the highest possible. Also...sometimes you can't even go that high on a 2nd display(although I think most recent laptops/GPU's allow this).

My native screen has 1280x800 pixels. Anyway I want the 1440x900 resolution for the secondary display (external VGA connector).
I can go much higher (up to 2048x1536 for each of the two displays), but there is no widescreen resolution after 1280x800. I am convinced this is a driver issue only! If OEM-tag-checking at the beginning of the installation was cracked, I could try the Mobility 9700-driver of some 17" laptop, that comes with 1440x900 as native resolution. |

Hi,
I'm spamming this post pretty much in all the threads where people are having issues dirving external widescreens from their Mobility Radeon card. Sorry if this is against the rules; there are so many threads to sort through for a person who searches, I figure I should put MY answer in as many of the places (and they're all appropriate) as I can. I was having the same issue with my Mobility Radeon 7500 and Widescreen. I got it to work (with quite a bit of effort), and just wrote up a webpage summary and posted it to my personal website. I hope it's OK to link; best to get the information (and pictures) off there. All the real credit goes to those who wrote ModTool. http://www.quickowl.com/Services/Hardware/Mobility Radeon WS/ Thanks! Ben |

Thanks! |
