Hello:
This is an inherant problem with some systems where the manufacture hasn't updated the BIOS for a long time. Try setting UMA to 32 MB, and see if that works, otherwise, uninstalled the modded driver. Then, in vista, go to device manager, update the video driver, and follow the prompts that let you choose which driver to install, uncheck the "Show compatible hardware" and find the in-box Radeon IGP 320M Vista driver for AMD processor, or IGP 345M for Intel. It will warn you that the driver is incompatible, press okay to continue, and restart when prompted. If that doesn't help, i will try to look into the issue when i am permitted more time. Make sure you have installed the GART driver first before messing with the display driver, or you may run into acceleration problems. Take care - Randomness |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Hey thank you thank you! I love it guys, I got my 340M PCI-to-pci aka AGP port speeded up by reading this thread carefully and finding the best drivers for this. Someone had 345M and Im not sure did I download the same drivers, or was it some other. But anyways thank you! My Compaq Presario 2100 (2118EU) is working good!
But what brothers me is, the sound quality atm. Maybe the speakers in the laptop arent from best quality, but if someone has better ideas for sound drivers, they are always welcome. Edit: I just insert my dxdiag here, just so you guys could check I installed the right drivers. :P Oh, wait, how do I do that again?.. Last edited by Tredlort; Jul 4, 2009 at 02:02 PM. Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Hello:
In regards to Audio problems with a Presario 2100 series: Try using the Modded CX20468-21 drivers available in the public folder of my skydrive. Public - Windows Live This should correct the audio quality issues, but your dial-up modem will crash the system (BSOD) if you try using it with these drivers installed. Driver works for Vista and XP. I've been using these drivers for a while, and the modem-crash glitch is the only issue that i have encountered. But i rarely ever use my modem, so i just disabled it in device manager. Best of luck, take care - Randomness |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Hello and ty very much, Im installing them right now! But one more thing, I would like to paste the dxdiag thingie here, just in case there would be something wrong.
And where to get the dxdiag information from the "dxdiag"? Im confused with all the buttons.. ![]() Edit: Now it says problem with my "National semuconductor dp83815-Based pci fas ethernet adapter", not sure if it is becose of the drivers or becose of disabling modem.. hmm lol what, it says its disabled, how it is so. Well it is now in use but cant test it to work atm, with wireless atm. Edit 2: Ok, after the reboot it still says that Ali Audio Accelerator WDM driver is still in use, should I uninstall that?.. also it didnt find "newer" drivers from the directory I extracted the files, before I installed them trough setup Last edited by Tredlort; Jul 8, 2009 at 03:22 PM. |

Hello:
To install the modded Audio driver as mentioned in the previous post, you must manually install it through Device Manager's "Update Driver" option, selecting the "Install from a specific location" and then use the "Don't Search" option, and select the qta3091.inf file from the modded audio folder. When prompted to install and unsigned driver, click "Continue Anyway". When the install is finished, restart your computer. It is a similar procedure to install the modded video drivers. Please consult the previous posts on how to conduct the modded driver install. After both are installed, run The DirectX Diagnostic program (dxdiag.exe), and check that both are installed properly: In the "Display" Tab, DirectDraw, Direct3D, and AGP Texture Acceleration should read "Enabled", and the version under the main driver ati2dvag.dll should be: 6.14.10.6606 In "Sound" or "Sound 1" tab, it should read that Conexant AMC Audio is its Name, and the main driver should be camc6aud.sys with version 6.14.0010.0575 To write a text-file dump of the dxdiag, simply click the "Save All Information" button at the bottom right of the dxdiag window. Hello arvinray23:
Your laptop has a native resolution of 1280x800. You can make a custom monitor driver for that resolution using PowerStrip. You can download it here: EnTech Taiwan | Utilities | PowerStrip Best of luck, take care - Randomness |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Hi, I'm having the same problem with my screen going black after installing the driver and I then have to go into safe mode to roll back the driver to the Microsoft "Standard VGA" one. I have successfully installed the GART driver but I have the same problem with the VGA driver each time I try. I tried it with Vista and could not get it to work and now I have installed Windows 7 I still can't get it to work. I have updated the BIOS to the latest 2007 one and have also tried setting it to 32MB. Any ideas whats causing this? Also is it possible to get Catalyst Control Center installed on Windows 7/Vista? Thanks for your help.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I'm using a 340M. EDIT 2: I had another few goes at trying to get the driver to work with no success. It's a shame because my laptop copes with Windows 7 really well, starts up quickly, can run many programs at once, never slows down, but vizualizations in wmp are lagging, it even lags when you drag a window or scroll down a page, shows that it really needs a driver. I would be a shame to have to install XP on it again :P Btw, here is the information about the laptop: Compaq Presario 1500 (1525 to be exact I think) ATi Radeon IGP 340M Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz 1GB DDR RAM EDIT 3: After installing Vista and trying the drivers that Vista comes with, I then installed the GART driver and found that it would get that same black screen. So then I removed the GART driver, installed the modded VGA driver and it worked! So now I just need to reinstall Windows 7 and this time just install the modded VGA driver and not the GART driver. Is it possible to get catalyst control center with this driver? Last edited by Presario1500; Jul 29, 2009 at 11:13 AM. |

Wow! Took me nearly 4 days to read the entire thread. Have you graduated yet Randomness?? Tell me your studying something with computers / programming.
Anyways, just wanted to say there's a lot of good information on this thread that also translates to other systems besides the 320M. What led me here was looking for a way to update my Compaq Presario 2100 (2132RS) to run Second Life. Someone asked about it on this forum 2 years ago and it's heavy on 3D--imagine the Sims, but with more interactive and user-created content. I'm about to upload Cat 6.4, updated my BIOs, crammed a Gig of SDRAM into the slot, changed my shared memory to 128MB, changed my page file sharing for virtual memory to 2GB and then that should do it. Alot of work, but this laptop's been with me for nearly 6 years and to Iraq and back. Not quite the T-1000 , but pretty durable.Cheers, 12adioactive Ern |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Hello 12adioactive Ern:
Yes i have recently graduated with a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and am currently working towards my graudate degree. Most of the principles for driver modding mentioned in this thread can be translated to other chipsets, and is specially god at translating for other similar generation ATi GPUs. From everything i've read up on the graphics platform used for Second Life, you may still run into minor preformance issues, because almost all new 3D platforms these days try to impliment graphics programming that require Shaders version 1.1 or newer. The hardware on the IGP 3xx series were pre-Shader 1.1 standard, and some graphically intense game that demand shader calculations will either fail to run, or run very slowly, because all the work gets shunted to the CPU instead of the graphics chipset. But the configuration you mentioned would be the most ideal way to maximize the preformance from this chipset. If you are using windows XP, i would suggest using an ATI Control Panel to change the Direct3D and OpenGL settings to "Preformance" ; unfortunately i haven't figured out a stable way to do this win Windows Vista, but Vista's memory management and new HAL try to make up for it. Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Radeon IGP 320M, 330M, 345M, 350M
Hello Presario1500:
My apologies for being unable to get back to you sooner. I can confirm that there are systems that suffer from the black-screen issue when you try to use the new (or any driver other then VGA) with Vista (and hence Windows 7). This issue is BIOS related, and at present, the only workaround i can think of that might work would be to set the Graphics UMA to a value below 64MB, ie//set UMA to 32MB or 16MB. If that doesn't work, you may not be able to get vista or win7 to boot unless you use only the built in SVGA driver For those remotely interested: i am looking into Windows 7 and using it with the Radeon IGP 3xx mobile series chipset. At time of writing, the Modded 6.4 drivers "work" with windows 7, but you need to make sure you install the ATi GART successfully first. And system stability is still slightly questionable. You may also run into codec problems with Flash video or other video if it uses the new H.264 codec, or a mpeg codec that doesn't support VMR, or overlays using iDCT hardware acceleration. The HAL for windows 7 is similar to Vista, but there are a few subtle changes, which may cause problems with the current 6.4 modded driver. I am hopeful a reconfigured/modded "pre-300" Catalyst 6.11 driver could possibly address some the issues, but i am a bit to busy to tackle that project any time soon. Take care, and happy modding - Randomness |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Thanks for the reply. Its currently running Windows 7 with just the modded driver and no GART driver. I don't want to play games on this laptop so the modded driver works enough for me to use the laptop for work. I did try setting the UMA to 16 and 32MB with no success, I even updated the Bios to the latest 2007 revision with no success.

For the record the ATI GART is required to properly allocate system resources for the main driver, and is not necessarily related to gaming . . .
although out of curiousity, where did you find a 2007 revision of your notebook bios? |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Ahh, that may explain why it still slightly lags when you drag windows around.
As for the BIOS, I had originally been getting drivers etc by typing "Presario 1500" into the Compaq/HP support website, however after typing the notebook's serial number into the site, it came up with "Presario 1525EA" and I found a BIOS dated as 01-2007, here is a link to the download page: Select software and drivers Thanks again for your continued help. |

Facinating...
That's the first time i've seen HP release a BIOS update with such a large gap between versions. Previous version was from 2003, and then they jumped to 2007. In MSINFO32 does the bios date still read as a 2007 date? Just curious... - Randomness |

Dear guys, now i'm fighting with my laptop (amd 2400+) and damned ati IGP 320
i've followed your instruction and advice, and i installed windows 7 i've tried these tips: 1-on XP I saved these driver in a folder with the program Driver max -igp 320 oem driver (2003) -igp 3xxm driver (omega driver) 2-I installed windows 7 and set on BIOS the video card to 32 MB instead of 64 2-then I tried to reimport the IGP driver with driver max. Driver max warned me that the driver don't work but i think the drivers remains into window 7 in fact 3-in device manager, I selected "change - new driver" and I selected the the video card ATI IGP (unchecking the compatibility mode). and I saw the ATI IGP 320 ATI IGP 320M ATI IGP 320M-OPEN GL MX-XDDM 4-i selected one of them and the video card was succefully recognized!!! but... I have this problem, video card is recognized, but didn't work as well. cause in device manager i found (ERROR 12): ..... his device cannot find any free <type> resources to use. (Code 12) If you want to use this device, you must disable another device that is using the resources this device needs. To do this, click Hardware Troubleshooter and follow the instructions in the wizard. Where <type> is a resource type (IRQ, DMA, Memory, or I/O). Solution button: Hardware Troubleshooter This code means that one of the resource arbitrators failed. This can occur if the device is software configurable and it does not currently have a resource (if the system is out of resources). For example, all the interrupts are in use, or the device requests a resource that is currently in use by another device that will not release the resource. To resolve this problem, follow the instructions in the Hardware Troubleshooter. In addition, see the "Troubleshooting Conflicting Hardware" topic in Windows 95 Help, or see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: ..... in fact i have in device manager ->00009000 - 0009FFF PCI ADAPTER ->RADEON IGP 320 M-OPEN GLI MS - XDDM (yellow esclamation mark) i tried using ATI GART driver to install a AGP driver (HP stock) but didn't work any suggestions???? regard Angelo |

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Hi Randomness and everybody!
I've started to read this thread, but it's way too long and now I'm starting being confused, so please help me. I would like to give life for an igp 320m under windows 7 (IGP320M with Device ID 4336 SUBSYS 0024103C uses the "U1" configuration in the notebook versions of ATi's catalyst driver); It's in a HP Compaq nx9005 laptop (If your idea is BIOS update, forget it: HP doesn't give any). What is the best catalyst version for it if I'd like to play games (CS, WoW) and also like to watch movies, and like to use TV output (not for movies; for StepMania ). Is it still 5.13? (And Omega or patje Mod?)The main thing is game performance and working TV out for game(s) (just for StepMania). Please please help me!!! Thanks in advance! Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
First of all, like the others, I want to thank Randomness and alexl55 for the tremendous amount of effort they put into this. I read most of the thread but my problem seems different than others.
The laptop I am referring to is pretty ancient, the HP Compaq nx9010. I have the ATI IGP 345 graphics card. My problem is this: at random times when I play Warcraft III, the program seems to keep print screening. Basically it starts printing the screen hundreds of times, so I get so much lag it's not even funny. After one single game, I had over 1600 TGA files in my Screenshots directory. I've concluded that it is some problem with my IGP 345. In other programs, such as Photoshop, it also occasionally starts printing the screen. I reinstalled Warcraft and the graphics card, but no luck. Will greatly appreciate any help and advice. |

Radeon IGP 320M (HP Compaq NX9005) and Windows 7
Hi again!
I've read more of this thread during my waiting for response... And I've found Randomness's description about how to install a driver properly for our great chipsets: Quote:
But I still have a question: Where can I find the proper Modder for these Catalyst versions? Is the one downloadable from this site working properly for 6.4, 5.13, 5.9? Thanks in advance. Bye |

What about CCC or Control Panel?
Hi,
I tried Catalyst 6.4 (Modded with DHModTool); It's working fine: 3D (games) seem to be good, and movies are working with great fps. But I can't make work the TV out (S-Video) :S (Previously I had 6.5 (Omega 38252 exactly) and my laptop restarted every time I tried to shut down or go to Stand by) What do you guys think: Is it possible to install CCC or Control Panel for our chipsets under Win7? First: the fine tune would become handy, and second: I would make TV out work through display manager (in CCC). Does anybody have some experience with CP or CCC under Win7? I know it's not a "must have" thing. I'm glad that at least I can play games and watch movies on this OLD laptop under Win7. But it would be useful (if we can make it )ps: I've browsed this thread further, and I've found your skydrive Randomness. I think I will use your 6.4 driver (with GART) instead of that one I modded with the tool. And I've found a page which offers 9.7 Win7 driver for IGP 320M.....mmmmmm......It sounds fake, but I will try it, who knows... I will inform you if it is working ![]() Here's the link if anyone interested: http://driverscollection.com/?H=Rade...SS=Windows%207 Last edited by Pankus; Sep 24, 2009 at 01:50 PM. |

Hi,
I would like to install Windows 7 on my COMPAQ Presario 2100 laptop which has Radeon IGP 320M graphics chip. Which drivers do I have to use? HP does not support Vista or 7 on this laptop, so do I have to download a driver from ATI and or 7 has drivers for this chip itself? Also, what is the newest Catalyst driver I can use with this chip? Thanks a lot |

okay, i've read the last couple of pages, and it seems that i can use 7's own IGP 320m driver to use that card. what version is that driver? and can i use a newer one from ATI? is there any way to install CCC or CP on Windows 7?

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Hello:
This will probably be one of my last posts in regards to windows 7, and in this thread: The Radeon IGP 3xx series embedded GPU / northbridge chipset is based on a FIRST generation radeon core. Please keep this in mind when experimenting with Windows Vista and Windows 7. The mentioned modded Catalyst 6.4 will work in Windows Vista, and in some case, in Windows 7, if the notebook in question has a properly updated ACPI table in its "latest" BIOS update. However, the hardware abstraction layer is significantly more different in Windows 7 then windows vista, and even more so in Windows XP, so there will be cases where this chipset may work in vista but not in windows 7. Windows 7 does not have a functional built in driver for this chipset. Windows Vista does have the desktop version of this chipset's driver built in, but does not provide OpenGL libraries and hence no OpenGL support. These built in drivers need to be manually installed / selected via device manager as mentioned much, much, much earlier in this thread. If your trying to get windows 7 to work with a modded driver, please note, ANY CATALYST DRIVER BASED ON 6.6 OR NEWER WILL CRASH THE GPU. Using any 9.x, 8.x or 7.x catalyst driver will not work, the system may provide basic 2D rendering, but will likely crash the moment it is taxed. That said, any driver older then 5.10 will not work with the Vista / Win7 HAL. So you would need to play with drivers within the Catalyst version range of 5.10 to 6.5 ; If windows 7 does not work with the modded 6.4 driver mentioned, it is likely not possible to get the system to properly allocate resources to the GPU due to limitations in the system's BIOS code. You can try playing with your UMA setting in BIOS to reduce the GPU's resource footprint. But . . . generally speaking, if it is still not working, and your running the "newest" bios available on your system, i doubt your notebook's manufacture has made any attempt to fix it, because the notebook is in an obsolete technology class. I have had luck getting Windows 7 working with the GAT and 6.4 modded driver i mentioned earlier, but i cannot get any veriation of ATI CP or CCC working with this chipset in the windows 7 environment. In order to get access to driver settings, it would likely need to be done manually in the registry. I haven't had the time, nor patience to figure out which registry entry enables TV out functions. The system i managed to get Windows 7 working with this chipset is a Presario 2100 series with an AMD CPU. This includes a large number of older HP notebooks, encluding the nx9005, and evo models. But the system needs to be running the newest BIOS available, namely the KA.M1.60 version. Any BIOS older older then KA.M1.60 and you'll probably run into a Code 12, or other code error trying to get the driver to work. I have decided against continuing to work with Windows 7 due to stability issues with other hardware on my notebook (audio, modem....et al). That...and my battery works best with good'ol windows XP. (Beleive it or not my battery still works after 4 years.) I will try to answer any questions that i feel haven't been answered already somewhere on this thread, but i will no longer be actively monitoring this thread, and a reply could take some time. I wish you all the Best of luck, and take care. - Randomness Last edited by Randomness; Nov 21, 2009 at 03:36 AM. Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there
Hi Randomness and other friends,
It has been was a very interesting thread. I have a ze4800 pavilion laptop and have been using it for almost 5 years. Since I was not happy with Vista, especially owing to its stability problems with older hardwares like scanners, printers etc. I have been running only win xp. Then I installed windows 7 on my desktop and was thrilled with its performance. Though it does not have drivers for my earlier peripherals, I had no problem in forcing the latest XP drivers to work with it. All my external hardwares and drivers are performing excellently albeit even faster now. I have since installed windows 7 in my laptop as well. Though I am having a dual boot of xp and 7 I have no problems and work only in windows 7. The laptop has radeon IGP 320m embedded and a conexant audio interface. The xp driver for IGP works well under win 7 but I found the driver version 6.14.10.6436 as the most compatible (it is even WHCP qualified) and provided directly by HP. Sadly I don't remember the ftp location on the HP server. Though this version is also available at other locations like soft32 etc., I think HP has modded this slightly. I will post it as soon I locate the server. In the meantime I will try and upload the files and post the location here. Regarding the conexant driver, there was a lot of hang-up issue while playing video. Windows 7 used to freeze till I modded the original driver of XP. Now I have no problems. I will also upload the conexant driver file. The driver version is 6.10.13.282. The SM56 modem driver also works fine without any hang-ups while playing DVD's or games. There is a latest version available on windows site provided by motorola. The latest driver version is 6.12.7.0. Though not necessary those wishing to keep their drivers up to date can install it. Since I don't use modem at all I am not in a position to comment on its functionality. I am using Cyberlink Power DVD 8 without any issues of play back of DVD or any other formats. Since I have 1GB RAM I have allocated the full 128MB to the graphic card in bios for improved performance and so far I have had no issues while playing DVD's or games. I strongly recommend users to update to the latest bios available for their board from the HP site. Mine is KAM 1.6 of Phoenix Technologies. Though the card does not support Aero feature natively, you can download Tru Transparency and enable it to load at start-up for enjoying aero experience. The program offers 5 modes of transparency. I hope this helps. Good luck. Kannan |

Hi Kikoman,
I never had any problems like audio distortion. The only problem was the OS freezing and I had to force a restart. This problem only occured when the audio driver was in use (i.e while playing DVD or an audio file). It went away after i modded it. Though mine is not termed a realtek ac97 audio by HP and they call it Conexant, I think Conexant was only for solving licensing issues and it is probably a realtek one. If you want to try my modded driver email you address, i will send it across to you. Good luck Kannan |
