Colour Issues in Windows 7 and StarCraft 1.16.1

I was going to make a small thread for this solution, but was lazy, and am adding it to this thread for future reference.

If you try playing starcraft or other older game in Windows 7 and the colours are mixed up, and strange, try running the game after killing explorer.exe

I used the following batch file to launch Starcraft:

Save the following in notepad and save it as starcraft.bat:

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
"C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft\StarCraft.exe"
start explorer.exe

Once you make a starcraft.bat file, use this bat file to launch the game.
Note, if your using 32-bit Windows 7, change the path to
"C:\Program Files\starcraft\starcraft.exe"

In Theory this fix should work for Vista if you encounter the same weird colour issue in vista.

Cheers,

Randomness

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there

oh Randomness. guess what, I found a new XP driver for
Radeon IGP 320m/340m/345m video cards. it's package in the most unlikely place.

Gateway's "VGA_ATI_HD3470_Driver_v8.561.0.0000_XP.zip" ATI HD3470 v8.561.0 video driver package (about 75Mb in size). The CX_72271.INF file included there does mention those Raedon IGP 320m/340m/345m cards. ati2mtag.sys & ati2dvag.dll files bundled are version 6.14.10.6891. The DriverAgent "listing" page told me about that driver package when I inputted one of the "hardware IDs" for the IGP 320m/340m/345m graphics cards.

NOTE: The driver mentioned above is for Win2000/XP only!

what operating system are you using, frezasaga? I won't be able to help you if you're using Vista or Win7.

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there

Hello ep30rpg,

Thank you for peaking my interest, even though it may have been for a short moment.

I am sad to report that upon closer inspection of the driver package, and its CX_72271.inf file, i can safely say that it had been modded with DH Mobility Modder.NET (see line below [ATI.Mfg.NTx86] tag).

I would caution using the driver. At first glance, it appears this catalyst package is based on version 7.x to 9.1.

To re-iterate, any catalyst package above 6.5 running with a pre-r300 core (like the IGP 3xx, and anything older than a radeon 9550) usually BSODs under load in a 2D or 3D environment.

Best of luck, and take care

drat. i kinda found out the hard way myself that the inf file was edited. oh well, not sure why gateway would release it on their support site though. another ATI VGA driver package from Gateway (VGA_ATI_v8.471_XP.zip) is also "unsigned" for XP.

I think I'm better off using those ATI v6.14.10.6606 [8.24.0.0] drivers I found from Windows Update/Microsoft Update Catalog.

hmm, I wonder what version of IGP 320m/340m/345m drivers Win7 includes. I have a feeling they're XPDM drivers much like the ones from Vista.

@ep30rpg:

Vista uses XPDM based on catalyst 6.4. I haven't found any built in drivers in Windows 7, changes are they were removed from the drivers.cab file to save space.
In theory you could transplant the drivers, but i find my system is to unstable to warrant using windows 7 on this chipset

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there

I am just glad that I wasn't alone in suffering the 'IGP 3xxxm' curse.

I am quite appaled by the lack of information and support from ATI...

But... alas I could use some help.

I have a 6 year old HP compaq NX9010 with the infamous IGP345m with 1G of ram running XP pro sp3

I play (or try to play) some games like counter strike source etc and the perfomance is quite subpar of what you'd expect from a pentium IV with 1 G of ram mostly due to the radeon igp345m

My question should I update to the drivers ep30 found on the windows update catalogue or the modified 6.4 cat ones randomness recommends for games?

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there

hey

i suffered too under the ati radeon 345m curse but this particular forum helped me out quite a bit.i gave windows 7 home premium a try, since i was on some wat do i gotta lose, only to find it actually works perfectly, almost as good as xp.i have a hp compaq nx9010 and my specs are as follows:

OS: windows 7 home premium
processor: intel pentium 4 3.06ghz
ram:1 gig (2x 512 ddr) 959mb usable
Graphics: Ati radeon 345m igp 64mb shared(RADEON IGP 34xM w/OpenGL(MS-XDDM))
Sound:conexant ac link
bios:k hf 25

What i did to get windows 7 working was pretty simple.before everything i made sure my bios was up to date.i did a clean install of windows 7, which took about an hour and a half.then after the install i installed tuneup utilities 2010 which guided me after creating profile of how i would like my system to run. i basically disabled alot of visual effects which are within the windows 7 basic theme. this drastically increased my performance.i then installed the 5.8 ati gart driver manually under device manager with no problems.then i installed video drivers which randomness recommended for windows vista and gaming and they also installed smoothly.i then tried out the conexant sound drivers which randomness posted which worked nicely but for me personally i found that the volume was not as loud as it was in xp...so then i googled modified conexant amc drivers.i found two drivers which also work alright but was still not happy.so then i decided to go to the windows update catalog and searched for them there.i found new drivers which came out last year some time which are fully compatible with windows 7...but the .inf file didnt contain my hardware's id.i then decided to modify them by adding the id to the .inf file...and wallah! they installed perfectly with the same type of volume i had in xp. with the other drivers such as the modem and lan drivers i manually installed them and both devices seem to be working properly.i then installed other software such as office 2007 adobe winamp nokia pc studio etc.they all seemed to work perfectly with great response times.for video to work perfectly i installed k lite codec mega pack and made sure the output was vmr 7(windowed).its the beat way to get video and dvd playback playing smoothly without tearing, random lags and it consumes the least cpu usage.

when playing any videos except h.264 my cpu usage around 20-30% and ram stays around 37%.with h.264 files i found that wmv's and mkv's dont play very well, oddly enough avi's and mp4's play perfectly when using the h.264 codec.other than dat everything plays perfectly even dvd's.the other intresting thing is that my hdtv usb dvb-t card also plays flawlessly and iv come to understand that digital tv uses very high resolutions cause the channels are high quality.i was shockd that my dvbt tuner works nicely

after all this i decided to try gaming baring in mind that i just barely made the windows 7 requirements.i first installed counter strike which worked, but i wanted to tweak settings in my graphics card.i installed ati tray tools since the control panel and catalyst control centre didnt function at all under windows 7...the only problem with tray tools is that u cant change d3d settings but atleast u can change the opengl settings.i set everything under opengl to performance, and also enabled vysnc.after that counter strike worked perfectly, actually beta than it did in xp. i then decided to try epsxe 1.7 a try cause i still like playing ps 1 games especially the final fantasies.i used the d3d plugin baring in mind that i cant change its settings, and it also worked perfectly, beta than it did in xp. i decided push my laptop even more and installed gta san andreas( this game was pathetically slow in xp) . i set its res to 800x600 and it worked perfectly still with no lags...pretty amazing under win 7.

with video and gaming working properly under windows 7, i was very pleased.its been about a month and a half now and everything still works perfectly.its a pity there is no aero but wat the hell...performance thrashes visual effects anyways.the only problem i have with laptop is with analog tv tuners.even under xp the screen flickered and sound was terrible.tried two different analog tv tuner cards.i found that using media player classic to display the analog tuner decreases the problem of screen flickering, and for sound i had to plug the line in cable from the card to the mic slot.this also decreases cpu usage.not perfect but atleast 70% of da time the screen wont flicker.

thanks again randomness and everyone else who helped out with this card

Re: The EPIC legacy of the Radeon IGP 320M / 340M / 345M and related chips out there

Hi Randomness,

Very interesting thread, I have only read through some of it, as time is a bit of an issue, so please forgive me if this was already resolved earlier in this thread.

I have an Compaq Evo N1050v with the 340M, running XP. I use it mainly to watch movies with VLC and I did all the mods and CCC installations I read about in the thread, and they worked, but for some reason when I connect it to my TV, I cannot set the resolution to 1920x1080, the option is there, but if I choose it, the TV blurs. The TV definitely supports that resolution.

Looking forward to hear from you,

Regards

Am I glad I found this post!

I got an nc4000 laptop a while back, put win7 on it today, and the gpu driver was the only thing missing. I tried some others before, but yours is the one that truly worked. Thanks a million times!

Can anyone post a download link to the mobility 5.13b drivers for the IGP 320m please? The station-drivers link is dead.

Great resource this thread is.

Trying to run a compaq 2170us into a optoma pt100 projector with a native resolution of 854x480.

Tried powerstrip, so far no good.

I believe I have the latest drivers. 6.14.blah.blah

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Update : after a reboot, everything seems to work magically. Not sure whats different. Anyways, thanks for all the posts - extremely helpful.
