Widescreen Resolution 1680*1050 missing?
Hello There,
my big problem is my notebook is not able to display my widescreen resolution 1680*1050 with the newer ati display drivers (since 5.9 or so). Only if i deactivate the forbidden resolutions under the monitor tab. Doing this occurs in having games not able to enter the mentioned resolution, which is really annoying. Omega and both ATI drivers 6.1 (normal version modded and in both version the resolution is added) drivers are not working for me. Installing both ATI 6.2 (normal version modded) on my notebook is resulting in a interesting display chaos, which allows not to see anything. Desktop pc is working well. Has anyone any ideas how to solve the problem with my notebook? ATI is not able to help me (only offering me to install catalyst 5.9 :-( ) Greetings, Sebastian |

Tried to use Powerstrip.
Won't start, just do not know why. Seems to be a problem with the resolution |

Try modifying the latest drivers your self. Go part way through the installation but stop it before it completes then look for this file
C:\ATI\SUPPORT\6-2-mobile_xp_dd_ccc_enu_30156\Driver\XP_INF\CX_30156. inf. Open it with notpad and scroll down until you see this line HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD4, %REG_BINARY%,13,60,10,24,00,00,00,75,13,60,10,24,0 0,00,00,85,14,00,10,50,00,00,00,60,16,00,12,00,00, 00,00,70,17,92,13,44,00,00,00,00,18,00,14,40,00,00 ,00,00,18,56,13,92,00,00,00,00,19,20,10,80,00,00,0 0,30 HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD5, %REG_BINARY%,19,20,10,80,00,00,00,85 CHange it to read like this HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD4, %REG_BINARY%,13,60,10,24,00,00,00,75,13,60,10,24,0 0,00,00,85,14,00,10,50,00,00,00,60,16,80,10,50,00, 00,00,50,17,92,13,44,00,00,00,00,18,00,14,40,00,00 ,00,00,18,56,13,92,00,00,00,00,19,20,10,80,00,00,0 0,30 HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD5, %REG_BINARY%,19,20,10,80,00,00,00,85 This should have removed the 1600x1200@70Hz mode and added 1680x1050@60Hz, now continue the installation by running C:\ATI\SUPPORT\6-2-mobile_xp_dd_ccc_enu_30156\Setup.exe It will complain about the driver not being signed but that shouldn't cause you any problems, I haven't test this myself but it should help. |

Hello Shuflie,
thank you for your answer. Changed the line for my mobility 9700 and now i had been able to install the mobility 6.2 drivers. Widescreen resolution is still not working by windows itself. Only with disabling not allowed modi. Will give it at the weekend another try. Maybe there is another change to do in the inf file. CU, Sebastian |

Is not removed, is there, in fact, I bought a new 20.1" LCD Wide Screen monitor and that is my new default windows resolution. Make sure you have the correct monitor INF installed, that will solve it (I had to install mine to get it to work).

Never believe what MS tells you
![]() Justr force install the newest drivers, don't let windows detect them, that should fix it. (also remember to disable DDC after it is installed and setup your correct monitor specs in the display tab). |

Hello Omegadrive,
thanks for your answer. My prob is, i do not have any inf file for my widescreen notebook. Xeron, the notebook manufactor, does not provide any. So i do have to use them from microsoft. But i do not know, which one (monitor) to use, if i would like to change them manually, because widescreen are not supported as generic monitors. By the way, what do you mean with DDC (part of PowerSTrip)? Thank you very much in advance, Sebastian |

In the ATI Display tab, you can click on your monitor and change the DDC settings (disable it) and then specify the max resolution and refresh rate manually.

Hi there,
i am able to activate the resolution 1680x1050 but after starting a game e.g. with lower resolution windows goes back to its standard 1400x1050. Therefore nothing happens really. Trying to install a inf generated by Powerstrip ends in nothing happening. This is the inf-file: ; Angepasste Monitor-Informationsdatei - generated by PowerStrip 3.0, 12.02.06 ; Copyright (c) 1995-2005, EnTech Taiwan. ; Web: http://www.entechtaiwan.com [Version] Signature="$CHICAGO$" Class=Monitor ClassGUID={4d36e96e-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} Provider=%MFG% [Manufacturer] %MFG%=MonMfg [MonMfg] %MODEL%=Mon.Install [Mon.Install] DelReg=DEL_CURRENT_REG AddReg=Mon.AddReg,RES,DPMS [Mon.AddReg] HKR,%MODE%,Mode1,,%RANGE% [DEL_CURRENT_REG] HKR,MODES HKR,,MaxResolution HKR,,DPMS [RES] HKR,,MaxResolution,,%MAXRES% [DPMS] HKR,,DPMS,,1 [Strings] MFG="Xeron" MODEL="SonicScreen" MAXRES="1680,1050" MODE="MODES\1680,1050" RANGE="30.0-75.0,50.0-85.0,+,+" Is there any error in it? If yes, please be so kind and tell me. Windows keeps on thinking my res is 1600x1200 and therefore my widescreen resolution is not allowed under normal situation. I need to deactivate the field in the monitor tab in the advanced Display settings for forbidden resolutions. Thx in advance, Sebastian |

It says
MAXRES="1680,1050" MODE="MODES\1680,1050" So I don't see why you don't get the res you want

This is the inf file for my ACER AL2032W monitor, modified slightly to allow it to install in XP64. Comparing it with your powerstrip generated inf file it looks like the mode lines are a bit different. For some reason the acer dirver calls for 1600, 1200 in the mode line and different frequency values.

Are there any suggestions, how to edit the driver xp-inf file to get windows to allow the resolution at 75 hz? Do not know why. Returned to the standart monitor-drivers by the way, because it changed nothing. CU and thx in advance, Sebastian |

75Hz? That sounds too high for a laptop.. you should be fine with 60Hz tbh..

I have had this problem since last year. I tried posting here several times, but never got helped.
I have a Sager NP3790 (aka Clevo E37EW) with 1680x1050 resolution screen. For the record, the omega drivers have NEVER worked on this machine. It installs fine, but everytime I boot into windows, I get black screen. Nothing seems wrong as sounds still works, just the entire screen is black. I have also tried the ATI mobile drivers, but they do not allow me to set 1680x1050. Always force me to use standard resolutions (no widescreen). The latest driver 6.3 mobile from ATI installs fine, but when I restart after the instal, my screen is all messed up. I cannot see anything except smears of blobs of colors. I restarted my computer using the power button and it never gets back into windows again. It gets to the "WINDOWS XP" with the moving bar then goes to blue screen of death with white words for 2 seconds and reboots my system. It keep looping, so I have to boot into safe mode and uninstal driver. |

Hi there,
i found the solution for my problem. Under the monitor tab i have 3 entries: Standard-TV, Plug and Play Monitor and (Standardmonitor) Thought the (standardmonitor) was my display, so i installed there my self created inf file and nothing happened. With the help of a friend we found out, that my noebook referes to the Plug and Play Monitor, so we installed the inf file there and now it works right. Resolution 1680*1050 with 75Hz is working wihtout any problems. First of all you have to edit the inf file of the drivers so your drivres are installed with this resolution. Is your res not in the list, you are not able to use it. See posts above or send a pm to me and i will try to help. Tried to install Cat Mobile 6.3, too. They are not working on my notebook. Same effects as mentioned by XClaude. Seems to be a ATI Problem. Cu, Sebastian |

I have a Sager 3790 with a 1680x1050 resolution. This laptop also requires a 75 Hz refresh rate. Anything else results in a scrambled screen. Unfortunately the newer Catalyst drivers seem to default to a 60 Hz refresh rate when you reboot after installing them. I solved my problem with the newer Catalyst Mobility 6.4 drivers with ReForce. You can download it from http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rf/download.html.
After installing the drivers, don't reboot. Run ReForce, figure out which monitor registry entry applies to your LCD, and set all resolutions to 75 Hz. You can also add resolutions in ReForce, so if you need 1680x1050, add it and set it to 75 Hz too. Once you've done this, reboot, and everything should work. |
