nForce2 Motherboard Resource Issue

If you recently purchased a board with one of these chipsets in it and are getting this error below.

You've done nothing wrong. The problem is this chipset does not like USB Keyboards & Mice. You will have to use your PS/2 port for one of these devices.

However, it seems some people have used the register patch from Epox and it has worked for them. You can download it here.

http://www.epox.com.tw/file/WINXP_PATCH.REG

I would recommend you back up your registry before you apply this patch.

I have this problem as well and had to search through cost less posts to find the cause. Only problem for me with this is I'm using a much beloved MAC Pro keyboard on my PC and I'm not giving it up!

Hope this info. helps anyone scratching their heads on this issue.

I just flashed to the 1002 uber bios ..That didn't help either..Also No longer have the option to choose to run the memory in sync mode in the bios.. I'm going to try the reg 1002 bios and see what happens..Might even try the 1001e.

Why would you ever bother to buy usb devices like keyboards or mice? You have PS2 slots...why not use them?

A matter of preferance

The keyboard is no big deal to me, but for me the mouse seems quicker more responsive when used with the usb interface.. Very noticable when targetting in UT2K3. In the ps2 slot it seems sluggish and jumped around a bit when I'm mucking around in photoshop E2.. This new MX 300 is sweet, even using the default xp drivers.. not a big fan of the logitech drivers from past experience haven't decided if I'm going to try the new ones.

Oh, well, I can't find a difference with mice. I have my mouse set so it is accurate as possible and I'm happy.

Hey Dark,

I have the MX500 on my PC and the MX700 on my laptop. I would recommend you try the new Logitech drivers since the latest version's work great for gaming. Logitech has also fixed the game wheel issue as well.

Corrupt Bios

I just had an interesting read over at Bit Tech about this issue with the A7N8X.

If any of you people who are wanting to buy one or own one. It is recommended to replace the battery to a 3.3V one, that increase the stability of the BIOS as many people including me have resulted a corrupted bios and it wont POST at all and resettig wont help.

My BIOS is dead. Its gone back to be flashed. If it doesnt POST after it was fixed ill sucide.
I underclocked my computer, changed soome ram latency settings and the computer, saved settings and the damn thing never POST again.

Good luck to any nforce2 users out there

I've got an AT7... I have no choice but to use USB, plus my keyboard has more features if I use its USB plug as opposed to the PS2... also, my mouse feels better on USB.

The PS2 port runs at 40Hz default while USB is at 100 i think, there is a little proggie to OC the PS2 port to 120Hz and then it will be even better then the USB for the mouse. I cant remember the name of the program, sorry.

Yes, ps2rate.exe. It will let you move the ps2 rate all the way up to 200hz, but beware - the higher you have it, the more CPU power mouse movement will consume, though I don't think its an issue with recently-built computers...

Hey Darkfoss. The sync is still there, it's just now called "100%" in the new BIOS.

Well this sucks, you mean to say if I get any Nforce2 Motherboard I won't be able to use my usb port for my mouse?

That is ridiculous- A modern motherboard like that should have no problems w/ any usb mouse. I'll have to re-think my next motherboard. I can tell a huge difference when I use the usb port w/ my logitech optical, I've tried it in the ps-2 port and it just isn't as good/smooth/accurate in FPS in games.

That's why I bought the mouse, for the higher refresh rate- I actually tried that ps2 o'c program months ago too- but I didn't like the extra program running in the background all the time. Hope they sort this out.

Think about it- I get 100+ frames per second in SOF2 and the ps-2 port is updating at 40 times a second- that causes major problems when your trying to blow someones head off with an AK-74 before they blow your nutz off w/ a shotgun.

You can set the PS2 refresh rate up to 200hz. That's very accurate. I like my PS2.

Maybe I'll try that- I think I was using a different program to O/C the ps2 port-- is the one above the one you use?

EDIT-- man I love how fast these forum pages are going now--

I have an A7N8X deluxe and almost ALL my periphs are USB. I haven't had one issue yet.
The only perihp that's not USB is my logitech cordless keyboard. My mouse, scanner, printer, wheel/pedals, PocketPC Sync cradle, Zip 250 are all usb and no probs here.
I visit nforcers headquarters daily and haven't seen anything about usb issues yet, course I haven't been looking either

You don't have to use any extra programs to increase the rate of the mouse. Just go to the mouse properties and click on advanced or something. Sorry I can't remember. I'm using USB for my mouse right now. I think... You go to Device Manager, then your Mouse... It's somewhere there . There's two settings... One for the Hz, and there's another setting which can go all the way to 300 I think. I read an article somewhere and it's recommended you set both to max. Hope I've been of help.

The problem is only caused by using a USB mouse & keyboard together. Since you don't have a USB keyboard, you don't have the problem.
