a8r-mvp

That `s great new Bios for A8r32-mvp. Like some have mentionned before what`sup with the A8r-MVP, there has been more complaints and request from this pool of users litlle reaction from internet hardware sites (exept a few excuses on behalf of ASUS and ATI) and nothing officially from Asus.

Now to make things even more silly, the A8r32 is not yet available in most of Canada. ATI has not released the crossfire edition master Card for x1800 512mb and rumours are they are rplacing that solution with the GTO. I invested money in a A8r-mvp and X1800XT 512mb and both are now white elephants a few months after there release and still no media buzz or reaction from ATI and Asus!

Saaaaad!

its been quoted in a link from rage3d that the a8r32-mvp can run x1800xt in crossfire without a master card link http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=4839

I guess Asus were yankin' our chain about releasing the BIOS update today. I can't believe they would leave their customers in the lurch like this. I'm so p*ssed at dropping a ton of cash on a new rig only to find I can't get those silky smooth frame rates I've always dreamed about. It's so frustrating, especially when we all know the fix is out there, but they won't release it!

Well, I'm off to write a snot-o-gram to Mr Asus. At least I can vent some anger to those that deserve it.

Kudos to all you guys for raggin' on ATI and Asus to get it sorted!

Cheers,
Boneman66

Guys I just fired an email off to our contacts in Asus offering to host the beta 311 bios we have for them if they are having issues with bandwidth or their sites.

Im awaiting a response. This really is not in the hands of ATI however so I really dont think its fair to pass any of the blame onto them.

I will call and see if I can get more information. and will post here. this seems to be the place to keep everyone informed about it.

311 beta bios

Ok guys, get it here - please note Driverheaven or Asus will NOT in anyway be responsible for anything that MAY go wrong, this is an unsupported bios.

I've seen a few posts about 1t not working...i'd just like to confirm that i've manually set 1t to make sure and am running at 200mhz, 2-3-2-6 1t with some Corsair 3200LL (with no strange noises either)

With Geil One TCCD RAM. an Opteron 170 and an X1800 CF Master GPU. I hear a high pitched whine but that may be harmonics from the different fans running.

Hah, 1T is still a problem with the A8R-MVP. Any news on that by the way?

having a 4 year old minboard on bios revision 90 or somethng rediculous like that I missed out on this party, but have to take the time to stop in and commend Stu and Z for their tremendous work on this, as well as ATi and Asus for their dedication to the community in getting this out.

This one's for you guys *clinky*

I assume as the posting has gone quiet that everyone is going well with the new bios... from reading some of the other threads elsewhere the only major outstanding issue is the noisy memory. As i cant recreate that i'll leave Anandtech to report it (as they can).

What i'd now like to do is concentrate on the A8R-MVP issues that you guys have been talking about. Can i ask anyone with A8R-MVP issues to send me a PM with the subject line "A8R-MVP" and a very short one line explanation of what the problem is. I will then gather all the feedback and contact Asus. I may well make a similar post to this one so we can track the issues to resolution and ensure that everyone is aware of the process.

Thanks all.

you may want to read Rodzilla impressions (at xtremesystems forum) after loading the new bios -not good, even if it solves these problems-.

Takumi is on a distinguished road

Hi everyone

anyone know if an official BIOS has been released yet? I been scanning Asus.com since DH made the announcement that an official BIOS release was imminent, but no luck.

As concerns the A8R-MVP, I wont hold my breath on a fix from Asus. The A8R32-MVP deluxe is the new beachhead. Asus is probably wishing everyone with A8R-MVP problems would just disappear. Then again, if enough people moan, something may happen.
But at stock values, the bad is not bad at all. Just that crazy vcore is abit nutty, and the fact that the Vreg circuitry is quite weak. I installed the SP dualcore patch for my 4400+ and the board blew. ALmost thought I had lost my 1900XTX and CPU at the same time.

Hi, it looks as if Asus has come up trumps . Upgraded to 0311 and all my issues have been resolved. I see that quite a few people are having problems with Quake 4. I've never had an issue with this game, even on the out-of-the-box BIOS rev., so maybe the problem lies somewhere else with this game. I've posted my config in case it helps the troubleshooting process.

A8R32-MVP (obviously)
Athlon 64 X2 4800+
2GB OCZ PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series
X1900 Crossfire Master
X1900 XTX Slave
IBM/Hitachi 500GB SATA II
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
Enermax Liberty ELT620W PSU
Windows XP Pro SP2

Hope everything goes well for the rest of you guys.

Cheers,
Boneman66

It seems to me that the problems he is having are not specific to 0311...more that he needs a new board. There have been no other reports of this refusing to boot problem for example and thats with us, anand and planet64 all doing lots of testing as well as numerous end users and Asus's internal testing. Memory compatibility also doesnt seem too much of an issue atm, other than the noise his is also the only post i've seen saying any brand doesnt work properly.

I'll keep monitoring reports.

Hi Boneman66, yes I'm still having issues with Quake 4 stuttering and HD thrashing. I've posted my spec below so as you can compare, however I'm not sure if it might just be my memory sticks, Kingston Value 2x 512. I've have on order some sticks that are the same as lordedmond's, as his system seems to run Quake fine, I'll be able to report on this later on this evening. There are other issues still outstanding, the ATI adaptive overclock bluescreens, and when I rebooted from that my drives are not detected, again I can't be sure that it just might be my memory causing this. I have tried the beta Quake patch, version 1.1 and aside from stuttering when doors opened and monster activity, I was able to play once I let the HD setttle down.
Cheers,
Chris

Specs:
A8R32-MVP
Athlon 64 3500+
Kingston Value Ram 2x 512mb
X1900 XTX
2 x 250g Maxtor Maxline III's on ULi ports 1 & 2
2 x 160g Maxtor Diamondmax 10's on ULi ports 3 & 4
Onboard sound
Antec Liberty NeoHE 550watt PSU
Windows XP Pro, was x64SP1 now it's X32 SP2

Could you monitor the windows page file usage history for a few minutes via task manager whilst your playing quake4 Chris and let us know what it shows - I dont play Q4 myself, but I wonder if it needs more than 1Gb of RAM and is swapping out....similar to the way BF2 shines with 2Gb as opposed to 1Gb

I think your issue may be specific to the Maxtor HDDs you are using, I have had no problems with Quake4 (played for 2 hours lastnight. However there have been many reports about issues with certain maxtor drives.

Also as to the write up at XS, I have never had the board refuse to post. only the issues tht I listed on our site and that were experienced here at DH.
So Far 0311 has fixed all of those issues.

I got a replacement board today,

RMA'd regarding the board and memory noise.

The new board does not have these issues and it is using 3500LLpro

I have no idea why, but there you go.

Hi, got home early so as I could try the new corsairs and ruddy hell, what a difference it's made. Quake 4 at ultra settings, 1280x1024, is so smooth now, no disc thrashing whatsoever, and no stuttering, it's like a new game lol. Amazing how much difference they've made, the whole system feels much quicker than it was, maybe it was the timings of the Kingstons I'm not sure, but thanks everyone, especially Lord Edmond, for your help....
