do all motherboards have 3 pin fan connectors?
Hi,
i'm new here.Nice to meet everyone. Well it might seem like a noob question. But its one i got to know.I'm planning on buying a Gigabyte GA-8I945P-G motherboard along with a zalman cnps 9500 led. So i found out that some intel mobos only have 4 pin connectors. And the zalman has a 3 pin connector. So i want to know if the 2 components are compatable. And is it possible to plug the zalamn into the aux fan connector. Help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

![]() the mentioned motherboard most likely to have a 4-pin CPU fan header on it since the Intel boxed CPU fan uses 4-wire fan cable connector. 4-wire fan cable connector can be connected to a motherboard 3-pin CPU fan header if a 4-pin CPU fan header is unavailable. 3-wire fan cable connector can sometime be connected to a motherboard 4-pin CPU fan header. or use one of these... 4PIN/3PIN ADAPTER Fan Connector... http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowIm...ale%29+%2D+OEM GA-8I945P-G's user manual and the layout of the fan headers's http://www.giga-byte.com/Support/Mot...me=GA-8I945P-G

Don't bother with trying to find a 4 pin fan, all you'll get is Intel stock HSF's.
Stick with a Zalman solution and turn of motherboard fanspeed monitoring |

well, unless they have a wrong pic on the user manual, that looks like a 4-wire fan cable connector to me. not sure about the CNPS9500 LED ones... |

the CNPS9500 LED is a universal design CPU cooler that will support both socket 478/775 Intel CPUs and socket 754/939/940 AMD CPUs.
it also come with a Fan Speed Controller, this controller uses 3-wire fan cable connector. the new CNPS9500 AT is designed to support for socket 775 Intel CPU only, this CPU cooler uses a 4-wire fan cable connector and supports for PWM control function of the system. |

i see, thanks for the info. But i think i'll stick with something safe and not to mention cheaper.
I'll buy the scythe katana 775 model, which will fit on the socket ad has a 4 pin connector. And its only $20 and people have given it good reviews. Thanks for all ur help anyway. |
