"PCI Device Found" Issue...

Hi, im new to the DriverHeaven Forums but i have been having this issue for a long time now and cannot resolve it. I hope somebody on here might be able to.

Everytime i boot up into Windows XP Pro w/SP2 i get an Installer Saying "PCI Device Found" click next to search the Internet for a Driver or Locate from a specific location, etc, etc.

It does not find the driver on the Internet (dont know why), it does not find a driver in the System32 Folder, or on my Motherboard CD. It simply will not find a driver for this device. I have Googled the Error but no luck.

Here is some info about my System:

Motherboard : ASUS P5WD2-E Premium
Processor : Intel Pentium 4 660
Memory : 2x1024Mb Corsair DDR6400
Graphics Card : Sapphire X1900XT-X
Sound Card : Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty
HDD : Western Digital Caviar 250Gb, 16Mb Cache S-ATA

When i installed Windows XP Pro, i had to make a SLipline Disc from SP2 and my Original XP Pro Disc. As i kept getting an error for PCI.sys file during pre-load of drivers for the installation. This issue turned out to be PCI-Express issue. Quickly resolved with the Slipline Disc.

I have a feeling that the "PCI Device Found" is in relation to my 2nd PCI-Express Slot on the Motherboard. It is currently empty, perhaps Windows keeps finding this empty slot and can not find a driver for it.

In device manager i get the only really important info : "PCI bus 2, device 0, function 0", if that is any help?

If anybody has any idea how to resolve this, i would greatly appreciate it. Also if you need any more info please ask me.

Thank You.

D-click the unknown or problem device, then in the device properties applet click on the tab "Details",
then at the drop-down list select "Bus Relations". you might find a useful info about the device there.

or, find more info about the unknown device in the System Information,
Start/Run... type msinfo32 and Enter,
in the System Information, D-click the Components folder, and then check the "Problem Devices" folder, located under the Components folder. the following columns are listed:

• The Device column lists the common name for the device, or the name of the device driver associated with it.
• The PnP Device ID column lists device IDs such as Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) ID, Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) ID, an ID for some other bus type, or an unknown type.
• The Error Code column lists the error code associated with this specific problem. In many situations, the Device Manager error code helps determine what created the unknown device.

or, you may be able to use the Registry Editor to identify the unknown PCI device...
go to "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI",
under PCI, expand each and every subkeys (the VEN_vendorID&DEV_deviceID&SUBSYS_subsystemID&REV_h ardwarerevisionID and below),
in the right pane window look for a REG_SZ value named "LocationInformation"----> with a data of "PCI bus 2, device 0, function 0"

Once you have more info on the device you may be able to solve the problem.

Thank you for your reply, i did follow your suggestions and here are the results:

A) Inside of Bus Relations was nothing. Empty Blank Box.

B) Using the msinfo32 tool and going to "Problem Devices" was the following information :
"PCI Device PCI\VEN_11AB&DEV_6141&SUBSYS_614116C0&REV_01\4&186 DEF45&0&00E5 The drivers for this device are not installed."

C) I found the Registry Key in the Registry. Again same info more or less, nothing revealing as to the nature of this problem.

I tried switching boot priority of the PCI-Express Slots and it did not do anything. I think i might upgrade the Mobo BIOS and see if that makes any difference. Again if anybody has any helpful suggestions im all ears!

Thank You.
