??? Computer doesn't beep and nothing shown on screen

After moving my comp home from college I found that it stopped working! The fans will spin and I can hear the hard drive and cd drive starting up but no beep and nothing is displayed on the screen. Sometimes when I try to power it up it will only turn on for a second and then immediately shut off. I know that it isn't the RAM, video card, hard drive, or monitor as I tested these on my brother's comp and they worked just fine. I also bought a new 500 watt power supply and tried that out only to still have the same problem. So I figure it has to be the motherboard or the CPU, and I figure that it was time for a cpu upgrade anyways, so I went out and bought a new CPU + mobo.... only to have the same problem yet again!

However, some things have changed with the new mobo. For one thing, the computer doesn't shut off sometimes a second after powering it on. Another thing, on the old motherboard once it started up I would be unable to shut it off by holding down the power button when I didn't hear the beep. With the new motherboard it allows me to do this even though there is no beep or startup.

What on earth could be wrong? I'm starting to get really frustrated. The comp worked just fine before I moved it home from college! Please help

You have a wierd case there... That is wierd after buying a new mobo/cpu and power supply it still does that.

I would Take out everything but the video card. and see what happens. I mean unplug everything from the mobo like cd drives all harddrives, and extra sticks of ram (only need one but try both), soundcard and anything else you have hooked up.

If you can boot to the bois after doing that then you know you have a problem with something thats plugged into your mobo. If that still does nothing to help your problem I have no idea.

Another good idea because we are going to want to know is list your system specs so we know what parts you are using. Model numbers help to

Oh well I returned the new power supply since I figured it wasn't that (before I bought my new mobo) and am running on my old Thermaltake 420W power supply. Hmm maybe it was a combo of both the mobo + power supply? Anyways I'll try what you said and get back to you.

EDIT: Tried disconnecting everything and still get the same problem.

Could it be that I got a faulty CPU? Oh my specs are

Radeon X800XT Video Card
1 gig ram (two 512 sticks)
160gb hard drive
3.4 ghz P4 processor (Processor 651)
Thermaltake 420W PSU
DFI 865PE-TAG Motherboard

I forgot to add make sure you have all the power cords connected to the mobo. If you are missing one nothing will happen.

Yeah they're all connected. Everything turns on (all fans and drives) but no beep and nothing on the screen.

OK well I just did a quick google search and was reading about what seems to be the same problem you are having.

What I have read and did not finish but your ram maybe bad. Like I said do what I posted before and if that does not work try each ram stick or if you only have 1 try and take some from a different computer and that might fix the problem.

Another thing is take the mobo out from the box and try it out of the case. On your move you might have knocked something causing your mobo to short out everything you turn it on.

Yeah I tried each ram stick individually with no luck. Maybe I should try a new power supply? I'm still using the old one. I returned the new one I bought when I tried it and it didn't work.

Take the motherboard out of the case and put it on a non-conductive surface and try and boot it up outside the case. Its sounds like you may have a short.

You might have grounding issues where you're plugging it in now, or an overloaded neutral circuit. (This is all wall socket stuff nothing much to do with the PC itself)

So you're saying it could be where I'm plugging it in that is screwing it up? Hmmm I'll try plugging it in somewhere else when I get home from work and see how that goes.

So what parts of the case should I connect to the motherboard when I remove it? Just the power switch?

K I tried plugging it into different wall sockets with no luck. I'll try removing the mobo from the case and running it outside the case.

Oh, is it possible that my power supply could be corrupting the motherboards? Here's a recap of what I did:

1) Old mobo with old PSU stops working
2) I put in a new PSU into the old mobo. If the old PSU could be corrupting the mobo then it makes sense it wouldn't work since the mobo has already been fried.
3) I return the new PSU due to it not working.
4) I buy new mobo + CPU and plug them into the old PSU and notice that nothing has changed.

So maybe if I exchange the new mobo I got for another one and got a new power supply it would work?

Well not sure how you would miss this but the older power supplys don't have the same connections that the new mobo's need? I guess they can run on 20 pins but the new ones I think need 24 I forgot becasue I have not built a computer in a while.

Anyways as far as I can tell it has to be the power supply? I mean what else could it be?

Alright I took it to Best Buy and they told me the same thing. So I bought a 24 pin power supply and that didn't fix it. The guys at Best Buy were stumped and said that the only thing they could think of that would be wrong would be that newegg sent me a faulty motherboard. So I submitted a request for an RMA and am sending it back tomorrow. If this new motherboard doesn't work I'm going to freak out . No one knows how to fix it , not even the technicians at Best Buy.

Well sorry to bring the bad news but why would it? I mean it happened on your old motherboard to so why would a another new one fix it?

Maybe it will who knows until you try it but I don't think it will???

You know that would be something to think about? Maybe the power supply died and blew both motherboards that you hooked up to that POS. It might not have been fully dead but just blew both But maybe they will not care when you return it or even think thats what happened if thats what happened to the new mobo.

A word of caution:

DO NOT USE THE SAME POWER SUPPLY ON THIS NEW MOBO WHEN YOU GET IT BACK!

first try it on a brand new one and see what happens!

are u using water cooling? is ur heat sinc installed tightly/evenly to processor IHS? also check ur fan connection. because i have to force my comp into bios after resetting it from too high an overclock. otherwise it reads that i have no cpu fan rpm's and shuts off. mine won't post unless i hold delete immediatley after pressing power. then i can turn off safety features. if it shows that ur fan is not working(even though it may be)it won't allow it to post.
