onboard lan and p2p

hi i was using an old dlink 530tx ethernet card until i recently installed winxp64. now the card is too old for it to be installed with this version of windows. so i am using my A8r32 Mvp Deluxe's onboard lan.

i have disabled firewall and set every security to off/low. but when i use ares (a p2p software) i cannot download anything. i checked all of the options but nothing shows up.

i went into biosto see if mabye some sort of firewall was enabled- nothing.

my dlink card was great..this onboard crap is annoying. any ideas? should i just grab a board that is 64bit compatible?

or is there any way of resolving this without having to do that?

ill try resseting the cable modem or rewewing ip. - thaniks in advanced!

Hmm...
-Have you ever used the onboard NIC and therefore know its good?
-You're SURE you can't get a driver for that network card? It's fairly common... I have 4 or 5 in various machines 'round the house
-Maybe its something to do with x64 and Ares not being compatible?

-well im still looking for info regarding to winx64 and ares.
-as far as the drivers are concerned i downloaded them. used them. and it did nothing. it says it could not be installed. it also says it couldnt even find an ethernet card. i removed it and installed it again- nothing- it doesnt work.

this is very annoying because i really dont want to get a new ethernet card. but i cannot do much with this onboard business- i have the a8r32 mvp deluxe mobo - comes with 2 ethernet ports. onboard.

anyways thanks

Probably the onboard NIC is disabled in the BIOS. May want to go back in there to make sure it is enabled.

Yeah, and make sure it shows up in the Windows Device Manager (Start --> Run --> devmgmt.msc)

it does not show up on device manager- only my onboard ethernets do - not my dlink- i have it physically installed on the computer. gonna check bios and see if it is there.

it is annoying because im able to surf and use ares and frostwire (limewire clone) but any other p2p utorrent i cannot- no downloads start- still checking out their forums though- anyways thanks again!!

OH and how would i see it in bios if my nic is a dlink and not an onboard- my onboard lan shows- it is all enabled.- thanks

ok..

alright the latest drivers i have found for this network adapter were for winxp not xp64..so i downloaded them and ofcourse they were useless. i clicked on device manager..found the problem device in question, (it didnt appear as DLINK 530TX on the list, but it appeared as a question mark picture and the name "ETHERNET CONTROLLER" beside it), clicked on
update driver and located the specific driver...to no avail.

so now im kind of ticked off lol

i cant use p2p at all...now whether it is due to 64bit or whatnot is beyond me. anybody know of a p2p that is 64bit compatible..and of any ethernet cards that are 64bit ready? i mean the drivers i found are VISTA READY!! not 64bit..what the hell?

*sigh*. anyways game on- again thanks for the information!!

To me it sounds like you're having a bad case of the '64 transition woes... I really have no suggestions for 64 bit P2P clients unless you can find them on Google (quick Google myself brought up nothing useful)... the network cards, before you buy look on the site for x64 compatible drivers then plunk down the cash on it

System Specs

what about the network card's hardware properties/options, the 'mediatype'? ones, maybe fiddle with those half/full duplex, 10/100base settings

oh & i think my nforce2 lan adapter has an option for low cpu usage or high throughput
