Hacking my dell

First off I have a DellXPS400 dual core 3.2ghz with Pheniox Rom Bios. I've made the neccessary changes to the start up bios like enabling hyperthreading and changing quiet options to the louder performance options(?). My questions are can i reflash my bios,will i have to do a mobo hardmod,are there simple bios mods that can give extra features like fan control? I've heard dell's are a pain to mod.

it's somewhat difficult to say, i've see some DELL machine utterly REFUSE to allow flashing of any type to occur enless you have an official DELL bios.

Now if you can say, rip the current dell bios, and make a few changes to it yourself without messing up the "official" bios code in a manner that it will refuse it, you could probably manage to do it.

How, like i said, not to sure, but i've heard and seen things done, that worked out wonderfully and others where it was a complete disaster, and due to the methods used, warranty instantly gone.

okay as of right now i cant even id my mobo i've got serial #'s part #'s off the mobo looked for a bios string # on boot up nada is what igot. the mobo is a 925xe with HT. I've heard that the bios lookes for
a checksum so by dumping then modifying i'm probably already done for. originally all i wanted to do was control my fan speed and couldn't find anything that worked. then began lookingfor a flashable bios. if you can give me a link or two... not that i wont find the best way to reflash before doing the neccessary research.

Just go out and buy yourself a fancontroller, problem solved...

Or make your own with some resistors and some wire

can i radoshack this beast or maybe take apart an old radio? i've solved my coolin issue by moving the third fan(XPSgen4 has 3 fans) to directly blow on the 850xtPE

you can try getting some manual fan controllers from Frozen CPU if you're in the states.

updating/hacking a DELL's BIOS is like the thing that can't be done (well, all big name pre-built PCs really). That would be your best be IMO, and i'm sure others here will agree
