Many problems looking to be answered. Please Help.

Hidy, 2 days ago I put in a new hard drive, as my old one wasn't working anymore. This having been the first time to do this, I see now how unprepared for it I was.

I setup XP on my pc again, and tried to log on the internet. I had many problems with this, but finally I have to a point where there is a Local Area Connection, and a 1394 Connection. I still cannot connect. I use the 'Repair' option and it stops at "failed to renew IP". It is Comcast Cable.

I got my video card working using the CD that came with it when I bought it, after I purchased the PC.

My next problem is Audio. my computer finds no audio devices on my pc. I googled and looked for drivers for my Motherboard and sound card and am at the end of my rope. I am not computer illiterate, but not exactly savvy. I'd be open to all suggestions and would apreciate any comments.
Also, when I try to play a video using Windows Media Player. When I tried to play a game, and it was very very choppy and slow. I don't understand this seeing as I downloaded the latest driver for NVIDIA.

Thanks,
Brian

Why don't you start by listing the components in your system.

Welcome to DH

sounds like you art missing drivers for the hardware in your system. Does the system have onboard LAN and Audio? Have you installed the drivers for your motherboard chipset? The cd should have come with the PC.

Check in Device Manager to see what items are marked by a yellow exclamation mark or a yellow question mark.

Universal Seiral Bus Controller

Multimedia Audio Controller
SM Bus Controller
Ethernet Controller

As far as specs, I can tel ya what I know.

GeForce 6600
1k Ram
New 80 GB HD
Motherboard is ASUSTek P4SD-VL
I believe my sound card is Intel NetBurst....maybe i865PE(if this sound applicable)
For Net. adapters it lists....1394 Net Adapter ...and Microsoft Loopback adapter(as the Local area connection.)

My pc when I ordered it from Sony was a RS620G...all i have done to it, is Vid card, ram, and this new harddrive.

Go find out the actual devices and download any drivers needed. the items with the yellow ? need to be installed, there is a + beside those devices which you click on to get access to the device. Once there right click on the device and select the update driver option

I appreciate the help

I have done what you advised and it can't find any on my pc of course, and needs to connect to internet to find drivers.

So I come back to have to use another PC to log on the internet, and cannot connect on mine. I can't find driver for my NIC and don't know what else to try to get on the internet with my pc.
