New Hardware Modem, U.S. Robotics didn't work

I'm trying to get a new hardware modem, because i'm really annoyed with the connection speeds that i get on my software modem. But i've already tried U.S. Robotics 56k Faxmodem PCI, but that always gave me static, disconnects, and other problems, that i couldnt' figure out. I tried RMAing the card, but the new one didn't help either. So i'm looking for a good, reliable hardware modem made other than U.S. Robotics. Thanks for your time.

I've always preferred the Zoom modems over USR and normally they are cheaper.

Assuming you mean you are disappointed with your internal modem and want a good external one, I would have to say all of them work just fine. Its a matter of making sure you have a clean phone line.

I had major connection problems due to static in the phone line. When the phone lines were cleaned and I believe some wires replaced, the connection was better than ever before.

Make sure to look into that, it may be what is causing your current issues.

Isn't there software that his person can download that checks their lines? I remember there was something that could do that..but I don't have any links for as such.

it's most likely your lines the phone companys do not care!! long as you have clear voice they coud care less if you conneced at all. As for a test search line test and you will find the 3com line test instructions and the number to dial. But if your getting less than 33.6 than it's defonatly your lines... I lived next to my parents for a while I took my pc over and connected at 45K at home two houses over 28.8k called the phone comany they check my lines and sAID THIER FINE ... (NOT MINDEING THE LINES WERE 20 YEARS OLD) .... YOU ONLY HOPE IS HIGH SPEED..... GOOD LUCK

wRITEING TIS ON MY CABLE MODEM ........
