Setting up home network with server and high bandwith internet

I am wondering where find out how I can set up a home network with with a media server as the gateway. I have already set up a wirless network for the 3 laptops and 2 desktops, one using a wirless connection, being used. I have limited experience with networking. I haven't built this media server yet and am doing some research before I start spending money on components. I am also wondering if there is a fiber optic or high bandwith connection similiar in performane availble for home without regard for of price. Any help would is appreciated.

Try Unreal Media Server from

I have my home Media Server setup with this software; it also streams to my Axim PDA.
